The original beautiful Universe 2001-Puerto Rico crowning Russia 2002.
The fake Puerto Rico trying to be like that of 2001 with Canada looking almost great like Russia...same thing.
2005 cynthia looks shitty if compared to denise of 2001! (NT) -- rachelle, 18:21:28 06/02/05 Thu
After 12 times -- Sally, 18:07:57 06/02/05 Thu [2]
After watching Miss Universe 2005 for 12 times, I have concluded that I really can't stand Miss Puerto Rico!!!
I used to not really like Philippines because I heard she wasn't too friendly with her fellow Asian girls but when the pageant grew nearer, I felt proud of her.
I was affected for 2 days as I realised how disappointed the Thais were with Thailand and Philippines not in the semis. I think they both should at least be in and remove USA and Switzerland or Greece.
Puerto Rico really looked so so fake! Even the Puerto Rico forum's moderator is a coward. He doesn't allow us to post comments openly. Everything must be screened and he's worried people may bad mouth his Plastic Doll!
Agree?
I think Puerto Rico is similar to Denise but uglier version. Without makeup, she's damn pale...imagine your girl friends no makeup looking pale and this doll is worse!
She walked well but her face.....really.....oh I cannot open my eyes well because the wound isn't completely healed.
USA was really like some fat Chucky Bride dancing on the stage. The way miss USAs walk with their arms is so weird...luckily last year's Shandi was very tall and gorgeous. This one, too bad...she's like my neighbours mum with few kids, bringing them to school and home.
Canada was nice and imagine she's in Wonder-Woman's costume...quite cool yeaH? She looks like a cartoon character but I like her than the two.
South Africa would be someone I though around Nelson Mandella's age....were they classmates before?????
Sad Sad Sad -- B, 20:53:51 06/01/05 Wed [2]
The three wonders of Asia who did their very best for us...yet the judges turned a blind eye instead for Latins and Americans.
I do feel really sorry and sad for Misses Thailand,Philippines and Japan.
Top 5.......Canada, Venezuela and Dominican Rep. I rooted for..... -- B, 10:31:02 06/01/05 Wed [3]
I think everyone seemed quite real and nice except Puerto Rico or Plastic Rico. I did sympathise Venezuela as she couldn't finish her answer and she cried alittle being a sweet, emotional girl. DR.,Mex and Canada were great girls. -- Pepsi, 21:00:46 06/01/05 Wed

if she has COnfidence,is the right word to say not confident okay?
From my point of view, I think she at least would make the top 10. I am very affected these days by the failure of these ladies. Thailand, Philippines, Japan, China, Singapore, Colombia. (NT) -- B, 08:20:38 06/02/05 Thu
My sincere Sentiments -- B, 10:24:02 06/01/05 Wed [3]
Dear friends all over the world,
To me, I've always regarded Miss Universe as some pageant reputable and beautiful. It's a prestigeous event and only the great ladies make it up the stage.
This year or even last year, my heart and faith in Miss Universe shattered. I had been a fan since I was 14. I know some of you may be longer fans than myself but at 26 now, I feel that it's sad to see how things are progressing.
In Ecuador last year, I agree that many delegates from South America, Central, North are wonderful as compared to my Asian ones nonetheless only India made the cut. She's great though petite. I was sad that Japan lost the prelims and so was China. Most of them were mainly Latins. Take it as it's being held in a South American region where the popularity was higher for those Latinos. I am not being biased as I was a fan of Colombia since 1993 before and even Puerto Rico, Venezuela, USA, Dominican Rep.,Peru.....each year, certain girls are wonderful....so I vote for them.
This time round in Bangkok, through my years of viewing, I felt that some girls from Asia should at least have the honour to perform in the semis. For instance, Philippines, Thailand and Japan. I do think they deserved a spot. The Thai Prime Minister was utterly disappointed and I could feel the emotion in myself when the semis were being announced. Only---Indonesia??? I was proud of her but it was short-lived. I wonder if they ever invite a panel of 10 Asian judges and only two westerners....what will the outcome be and how will the Latins/Americans feel???
Personally, I am from Singapore and I know where out delegate stand as compared to the world. I do think some delegates like Philippines did a great job. I didn't fancy her at first and I started feeling proud of her. She did her best. I still will congratulate her. I also pity Miss Thailand. She's so elegant and transformed from a country-side looking girl to some elegant, classy beauty. Japan was my pick but I agreed that her risky gown was too much. I felt really sad till today for these ladies.
Girls like Mexico, Peru, Switzerland, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Domincan Rep., Canada and Latvia indeed deserved the spots. I think Israel wasn't great and needless to say were the half-Thai Norway, USA and Greece.
Canada --- Amazing and charming with her eyes and jet-black hair. Her body was proportioned and her walk was good. She gave a positive answer as well.
Puerto Rico --- I think she's beautiful from a distance as her face really was done too much. She's good and walk was one of the best. I did't think Miss Universe wanna promote another Denise Quiniones lookalike...
Dominican Rep.--- Whether she fixed her chin or not, it's a minor one and she's fresh and tall. She's friendly, sweet and seeing her was refreshing. She doesn't have the typical Latina-trained pageant look. I think she's natural enough.
Mexico --- She was quite a sweet and down-to-earth lady with somewhat a natural face. She didn't sway so well but her answers in English wasn't bad. She's nice to me as compared to last year's undeserving "drag-queen".
Venezuela ---- This girl was my fav after seeing her perform and her little gestures of wanting to congratulate Dominican Rep. touched me though she couldn't reach out for D.R during the top5..I think she's quite an emotional, sweet and humble Venezuelan representative. She teared alittle and her answer was so sad. It's better to ask some interesting, friendly questions than political as it's so out-dated. Maybe Air or Earth???? Just kidding...but I felt sorry for Monica as she's nice.
-------------------------------------------------------
USA walked like a mad lady with short arms and swang her head too much during the swimsuit. If she could make the 10, who couldn't Susie C. 03???
Norway was horribly made up and didn't focus while she did her evening gown segment...wasting time up there...
Israel was trying to have that seductive and naughty girl look...would be great if she tied her hair.
Trinindad Tobago is good but she has this unwilling to smile look...last year's was sleepy eyes....this year was frowning lips...
Greece I thought was ok but didn't like her plain blonde look. She's not tall and looked bulky in her gown and well....wasted another slot.
I felt so sad to see Philippines walk to collect her award. She's heart-broken as we can feel...the hypes, the press, the effort.....so was Miss Thailand.
Donald Trumph's show was exciting but it's more like an American contest like many commented. I agree. I guess it's such. Good luck to all....just sharing.
Really should have included Colombia, Thailand, Philippines, Japan, Antigua & Barbuda...Aruba was good too.
:D
Love to all
B
i totally think the same too.i am devastated with miss universe's panel of stupid judges or should i say blind! -- rachelle, 19:31:11 06/01/05 Wed
Fun -- Pepsi, 19:35:21 06/01/05 Wed [3]
No Asians or darker skinned contestants made the Top 5 because the Miss Universe organization could not afford interpreters for them. They could only afford one interpreter and it was for Spanish.
Miss Norway, Miss Greece and Miss Switzerland were selected as first round finalists because the organization was buying their silence. Apparently, they were witnesses to Billy Bush running around half-naked the night before.
Miss South Africa did not make it past the first round because her nurse-maid said it was time for her mid-morning nap.
Miss Latvia benefited from her country’s $50 million investment to increase awareness on how to pronounce the word “Latvia”.
Miss Peru slipped on the runway because Miss USA left an M&M wrapper on the floor.
Miss Canada won because……she is Russian by birth and Donald Trump is trying to appease Vladimir Putin so Trump can convince the Russians to host the Miss Universe pageant down the road. (To add evidence to this, Miss Israel is formerly from the Ukraine.)
Miss Puerto Rico placed second because Michael Jackson’s people needed her to remind the world that plastic surgery-scarred people are human too. (Remember, Michael Jackson’s trial is ongoing and the jury is deliberating.)
After not being selected for the Top 5, Miss USA stormed off the stage and proceeded to polish off: 5 bags of M&Ms, 2 bags of Doritos, and 1 six pack of Pepsi……in 5 minutes.
that's so so funny.it made sense too!!! -- rachelle, 19:42:10 06/01/05 Wed
Whoever Pepsi is,thank you. You make me laugh and it's a good one. Thanks....let's cheer up. (NT) -- B, 20:57:37 06/01/05 Wed
BELLA DE CANADA ES LA MISS UNIVERSO 2005 -- Informacion, 19:19:40 06/01/05 Wed [2]
Bangkok -
Age: 24
Height (m): 1.7
Occupation: Veterinarian
Why did you join Miss Singapore Universe?
It is an amazing opportunity to connect with the public, and perhaps find a way to use my profession to help others.
Who has been an important influence/inspiration in your life?
In what way(s)?
My father. He has always been my guiding light, offering sound advice without excessive rhetoric. He is courageous enough to stand back and let me make my own mistakes, yet when I need help, he is always there. I will not be the same person without him in my life.
Tell us something interesting about yourself.
I can move my ears….independent of each other!
What is your best asset?
I am very sociable. I find it exciting to be in a new environment, meeting and getting acquainted with people of all ages and nationalities, and from all walks of life.
What is your greatest achievement?
Becoming a vet.
What are your hobbies?
Swimming, running, rock-climbing, and dancing.
If there’s one thing you want to change about yourself, it would be…
…to be more organized!!!
What are some interesting or unusual jobs you may have had?
During my veterinary education, I had to work on a farm where they bred cattle for meat. It was late winter and I had the onus of getting up at 6am to do pregnancy tests on some cows. It was freezing. The test method is to put your whole arm up a cow’s behind and have a good feel around! Although it was not the most pleasant of jobs, I was keen to get in there for a bit of warmth!
What is your career ambition and what have you been doing to move towards the goal?
I would like to own a veterinary practice someday. In the mean time, I will need to keep abreast with the ever-changing veterinary profession and learn more about business.
What’s your philosophy towards life?
Life is short. Live life to the fullest!
Glad Singapore sending someone eloquent and smart after Nuraliza Osman 2002.The past few girls were not too bad.Keep it up!!! (NT) -- Good luck Cheryl!, 20:40:55 04/14/05 Thu

i hate to say this but again and again there is only 1 asian in the finalist wtf**kkk is wrong with those judges don't they think our asian candidates are not that highly competitive compared to those latina freaks which is so tiring to see them almost every year their always on the top 15 but for yesterday's show if i can only pick 2 latinas that would be mexico and peru they both deserve the rest argggg (sick and tired of them) donald trump is just a crazy Old man tryin to cash in people on this stupid racist pageant show.... to indonesia tho its just for political reason that they called u !im proud seeing one totally asian girl in there! ISRAEL??tho its in asia i don't think i can consider her asian she is totally ukrainian. what happened to our highly competitive contestants like the one from singapore?japan?korea or philipnes? the hell is that! Canada finally ROCKS!!! -- Miss Canada, 06:38:54 05/31/05 Tue [1]
I'm so pleased to see Canada finally win something on a international level. I always knew that Natalie would win and the way she answered the final question sealed the deal. The fact that she said Thank you in Thai, represents how she respects the host country.
For many years we have tried and failed and now finally we came out on top, Natalie you have broken the curse, Canada has not won Miss Universe since 1982. Since then we have come close but no really stunning delegate as Natalie. Neelam Verma 02 represented us well, Kim Yee 00 showed us our diversity, Lee Ann Marie Cecil did great too but Natalie was the one to do it.
I hope in years to come that Canada will havea black canadian represent them as a black Canadian has only represented Canada only once back in 1989
WAY TO GO CANADA YOU ROCK !!!

i think miss philppines will make it to the final 5. or even the 2005 MU crown. if u will try to compare her in other delegates at their photos/videos/interview at the MU website you'll really see her picture of elegance and beauty.she can even win the miss photogenic award, u see there are times she looks sweet, and then a vixen and then a latina. totally unpredictable.. she has credible answers at the interview, too. very articulate and defined answers. im wishing all candidates to have a good time in bangkok.. my good luck to gionna cabrera! the crown is waiting for you!

My daughter asked me to make a list of the best girls in this year's Miss Universe pageant and here are my top 10:
1. Miss Phillippines
2. Miss Latvia
3. Miss Georgia
4. Miss U.S.A.
5. Miss Venezuela
6. Miss Colombia
7. Miss South Africa
8. Miss Aruba
9. Miss Mexico
10 Miss Thailand
-----------------------------
Miss Phillippines and Miss Latvia are the
two girls that I consider very appealing.
Miss Philippines is my first choice
because of her great answers @ interview
portion found @ official website of the
Miss Universe. Miss Latvia is my second
choice because of her super-model look.
I love very much Miss Thailand's evening
gown while Miss Singapore is very lovely
and I like her witty answers @ interview
portion.
Good luck girls!

i am Thai in Bangkok...this is my reflaction and many other Thai people...many people here say Asian women have very little chance to win the new miss universe crown. We are not proud of our Asian delegates...let me put this way...we are not proud of our Asian beauty....and the judges are all Western....just two Thais....I predicted the girl with Western look will always win....and win....LAtvia from Europe.
Reviews after seeing the prelims*** -- Jessika, 08:51:59 05/29/05 Sun [1]
While we are all awaiting the clips from the presentations here are my humble thoughts on the EVENING GOWN and SWIMSUIT competitions as well as the CLOSE_UP potential for interviews. My list will probably slightly chance after I see the clips, but I won't have enough time to make a full reviwe. I have a busy weekend this time.
We'll start with the
SHOO-INS ( 1 to 4 )
CANADA - Amazing in EG, one of the best and the classiest. She is actually better in EG than in swimsuit. The main crown favorite at this point. I don't think even Adriana can deter her from being Miss Universe ( P.P. 1 )
COLOMBIA - IMO Adriana is the best in South America and IMO she is Natalie's main competitor for the crown. I'm not thrilled on yellow but the gown looks amazing on her. She is
in fact with Natalie Glebova the strongest delegate of the year. Probably the very best in swimsuit as well. ( P.P. 2 )
LATVIA - Great gown and great body. The blue color looks great on her. She is virtually unchallenged for the best in Europe at this point and likely to follow beauties such as Diana Nogueira, Helen Lindes, Evelina Papantinou, Sanja Papic and Katrine Sorland. ( P.P. 4 )
PUERTO RICO - If anyone is thinking she is out, you are IMO wrong. That black number is an excellent gown and her modeling experience and modern attitude will pay its dividends. Unlike some previous pictures, she looked amazing in swimsuit. ( P.P. 3 )
NEAR SHOO-INS ( 5 to 9 )
These ladies imply will not be overlooked based on their performance.
ALBANIA - One of the best EGS of the evening. The show really got to a great start. She looks amazing in both categories. Her interview skills are decent enough, that's why I think she should start focusing on the final night now. ( P.P. 9 )
ANTIGUA - I don't like that gown, yet the improvement on that lady has been so enormous I have to rate her as virtually a shoo-in for the top 15. ( P.P. 8 )
ETHIOPIA - Amazing chocie for the EG, she is virtually close to being a lock for the semi-finalist now. Great interview & SS as well. The biggest contender from Africa and the strongest Black African since Mpule. ( P.P. 5 )
SOUTH AFRICA - Amazing but true, she delivered two amazing presentations when it counted the most. Her 6" height can only help now. She won't blow the interview. It's almost a sealed deal for South Africa. ( P.P. 6 )
VENEZUELA - Although not a favorite to win this pageant, she is well on her way to bring Venezuela back to the top 10, two stellar presentations sealed the deal. ( P.P. 7 )
GREAT JOB LADIES but still WATCH OUT for the INTERVIEW ( 10 to 14 )
DOMINICAN REPUBLIC - A truly genuine, statuesque beauty whose main asset is her swimsuit, she delivered a good enough gown presentation and will not have to focus on the interview. She's currently in a good position so the only thing I can say is to lay back, focus and deliver it. (P.P. 13 )
NORWAY - She would be much higher on my list but let's face it the gown was absolutely inappropirate but the fact that despite this I'm still able to keep her in my top 15 speaks how versatile this lady is. She'll have to be focused during her interview though because if she blows it or even does only so so she could find herself around 20th place which would be a pity. ( P.P. 12 )
PERU - WOW, that swimsuit is probably the best of the competition, forget her EG, she will score the top 3 in swimsuit and has a decent interview. Debora is yet another excellent delegate from Peru but she is a class ahead of Liesel Hollers and Claudia Ortizes. Great delegate! ( P.P. 10 )
SERBIA & MONTENEGRO - What seals the deal for her is her amazing swimsuit. Her EG could have been better that's why she absultely has to show why is she a law student. (P.P. 14 )
THAILAND - Chananporn just exudes intelligence and elegance and her being a host nation delegate will seal the deal. She is actually worth of the semi-final placing on her own and looks really sleek in SS. EG could have been slightly better though. ( P.P. 11 )
YOUR LIFE IS ON THE LINE LADIES ( 15 to 20 )
THis will be a catfight to the very end. These ladies have to deliver above average interviews.
CURACAO - Technically speaking interview is the worst out of 3 competitions for Vantje so I'm sorry to say she should have been slightly stronger in EG. She's a great great delegate but I fell it'll be a downhill for her from now on.
(P.P. 20 )
ITALY - Maria Teresa is right on the line. Her swimsuit looks surprisingly stronger than her EG. She is a very complete and consistant delegate + she has the ability to deliver a great interview, she closes up my top 15 but she'll really have to deliver with the interview. ( P.P. 15 )
PHILIPINES - She is one of the strongest bets from the Philipines. This country is so overhyped that their delegates are often automatically dismissed as being weak. This lady isn't, her EG is average so she'll have to deliver a nice interview, which she is able to do if she wants to be in the top 15. ( P.P. 17 )
RUSSIA - 2 surprisingly good presentation + her vivacious personality make her a competitive delegate. She has relaively good speaking skills so if she will use them to the max, she'll be a semi-finalist. ( P.P. 19 )
TURKEY - Guys check out this body and you'll see she just rocks in swimsuit. Weaker in EG and probably also in interview, I fear she'll come close but one more time fail to qualify. ( P.P. 18 )
ZAMBIA - Cynthia is almost there. She looks great in swimsuit and had a pretty polished presentation in the EG, given her pageant experience I will not be surprised if she does well in the interview. ( P.P. 16 )
LONGER SHOTS.
These ladies will have to nail their interview. Focus on your speech NOW ladies. ( 21 to 26 )
BRAZIL - This lady might squeak to the top 15 based on SS and again if she has a good interview. By no means, her EG helps her. ( P.P. 23 )
CHILE - More of an Oxana-ish kind of gown. Gown is ok, apparently she has great catwalk skills. I'm just not too thrilled on her face. ( P.P. 25 )
ISRAEL - If the EG would have been slightly stronger she'd be in, now Elena please just try to give it all for the interview, that's all what matters now. (P.P. 21 )
LEBANON - A really bad EG + an OK swimsuit, too bad Nadine didn't deliver what she could have delivered, still she is one of the more attractive faces of the competition. ( P.P. 24 )
SINGAPORE - This amazing interviewer just didn't choose the right EG, still despite that she's still in the game, she'll have to nail the interview to have a chance. Impossible task no? Difficult, yes. (P.P. 26 )
SWITZERLAND - Fiona is still in the game, she improved since MW but I fear the gown will be her undoing, she is really competitive in swimsuit. Fiona has the ability to interview well and I hope she'll use it to the max. ( P.P. 22 )
VERY LONG SHOTS, will have to be in the top 5 f not top 3 in the interview to even stand a chance for the top 5.
ARUBA - I think this lady is shocking traditionalists, she is so consistent that a top 15 is a possibility, albeit she is more of a longshot. Still, I think she won't make it but if she can really excell in the interview, she could deliver the shock of the year. (P.P. 30 )
BARBADOS – A rather competitive delegate from this country, congratulations on another great delegate. ( P.P. 39 )
BELGIUM - Amazing swimsuit body, she's a bit on a short side, who know.. if she will be in the top 3 in the interview, she might still pull a surprise. ( P.P. 27 )
BULGARIA - Again, more of a longshot, but she delivered two attractive performances. Better than expected. ( P.P. 37 )
CROATIA - Although a bit overhyped, she is consistent enough and deserves her top 30 position. ( P.P. 29 )
GREECE - Just like Croatia, I think she has only an outside chance of making it now. Only if her interview is excellent she could make it. ( P.P. 34 )
GUATEMALA - I know her inclusion is a surprise but this is the best Guatemalan delegate in years. She is 6" and the pinkish gown looks great on her. ( P.P. 28 )
MEXICO – Overhyped by some “experts”, her EG is her undoing. At 5'6" she is a longshot however if there was a top 30 she have been competitive. She reminds me of Jacqueline Bracamontes (01 ) ( P.P. 38 )
PANAMA – A cool delegate worth of mentioning, she’s among the best in Central America ( P.P. 40 )
PARAGUAY - Surprising, she was rather consistent in her presentations. Not the favorite but a delegate that is worthy mentioning. ( P.P. 35 )
POLAND - Although slightly weaker than expected, this lady fully deserves our attention and if there would have been a top 30, she'd be a worthy inclusion. ( P.P. 31 )
TRINIDAD & TOBAGO – This lady is doing all she can, she has a great interview and let’s hope she’ll nail it. ( P.P. 32 )
UKRAINE – Her perceived naivete and ingenue vibe may attract some judges to her. Beware Yuliya is actually a competitive delegate. ( P.P. 33 )
UNITED KINGDOM – From one of the worst to a great and one of the very best Evening Gown as well as a polished swimsuit presentation. Brooke gave it all she could. If she wins the interview, you just never know. ( P.P. 36 )
THE EXCEPTION – India is of course the exception.
INDIA - If Gul made it, this lady could as well but her EG is really not helping the cause. She will have to nail that 33,33 % for the interview or actually in other words win the interview competition to have a chance to squeak to the top 15, it is possible but I wouldn't count on it at this stage. She lost too much points already, mathematically it’s possible but chances of it are as high as Kerry winning Arkansas in 04, so possible but very unlikely. ( P.P. 46 )
OTHER LADIES, NO CHANCE WHATSOEVA FOR THE TOP 15 ( 41 to 45 and 47 to 81 ). Yes, there are some cellar dwellers among them but I won’t give you my placing for these positions, hehehe :-p
ANGOLA – Nice but among weaker delegates in recent years from Angola.
AUSTRALIA – Unfortunaly her EG was her undoing, she’s just too far behind now.
BAHAMAS – Nice but the competition is too tough.
BELIZE – Nice lady but she was really overhyped.
BOLIVIA – Thank you for showing sweetie, you seem to have a lovely personality.
CHINA – Ni Hao for showing honey. I hope you’re enjoying Thailand.
COSTA RICA – Nice lady but nowhere near as competitive as Nancy Soto.
CYPRUS – Amazing face, if she was a bit more in shape it’d be great.
DENMARK – Sweet lady I’m glad Denmark is participating this year.
ECUADOR – Nice haircut & sweet lady.
EGYPT – Nice facewise, but other than that she just does not stand out
EL SALVADOR – She is actually one of the best El Salvadorean delegates that are generally the “cellar dwellers” of the competition.
FINLAND – Nice face and cool lady.
FRANCE – Unfortunately she’s weaker than at Miss Europe.
GEORGIA – A gorgeous pair of legs.
GERMANY – Bad gown and she’s short. Stil, Asli is a great lady.
GUYANA – A very cool lady that is in a great shape.
HUNGARY – Cool, traditional looking lady.
INDONESIA – We are so proud of you and of what you did. You are a great example for women all over the world.
IRELAND – A great lady but the competition is too tough this year.
JAMAICA – She’s actually a very sweet lady.
JAPAN – The ooh la la EG unfortunately backfired. Too bad because this lady was worth of a semi-final spot but what can you do if you place 81st in EG?
KENYA – A sweet lady focusing on her African heritage.
MALAYSIA – An improvement over Andrea Fonseka
MAURITIUS – Nice. Congratiulations for the job well done.
NAMIBIA – Nice but again this year is too competitive.
NETHERLANDS – Exotic lady showing the multiculturalism of the Netherlands
NICARAGUA – Cute as a button, she could fare very well in one of the Latin pageants.
NIGERIA – Sweetie, thank you for participating and teaching us about your country.
SLOVAKIA – Not as good as past Slovakian delegates.
SLOVENIA – A very competitive year but this lady is worth our attention.
SPAIN – She reminds me of many past Misses Gibraltar.
SRI LANKA – Honey, thanx for the participation and good luck with your action career.
TURKS and CAICOS – Sweetie, thanks for showing up. I liked the gown.
URUGUAY – A nice delegate with a good sense of style.
USA – Chelsea’s sweet southern personality is her main asset. Good luck in her future fashion studies.
US VIRGIN ISLANDS – A nice, genuine smile and a very sweet lady.
VIETNAM – Nice lady, she could be a runaway model.

ASIANS CAME STRONG THIS YEAR. VERY GOOD
1. PHILIPPINES - I WOULD SAY THE BEST ASIAN DELIGATE THIS YEAR.
2. THAILAND - A WONDERFUL HOSTESS I DON'T MIND HER BEING IN THE SEMIS AT ALL.
3. JAPAN - NOT THE TYPICAL JAPANESE DELEGATE BUT SHE WOULD EASILY BEAT THE CAUCASIANS AND LATINS IN THE RUNWAY.
4. SINGAPORE - SWEET ASIAN SURPRISE
5. INDONESIA - I AM FEELING A SEMI SLOT FOR HER. A GOOD REP
6. INDIA - NOT THE TYPICAL MISS INDIA SENT THIS YEAR BUT SHE'S ARMOURED WITH HER WIT AND PERSONALITY.
7. CHINA - NOT AS STRONG AS PREVIOUS MISS CHINA BUT NOT THAT BAD EITHER.
8. KOREA - PRETTY ASIAN
9. VIETNAM - A GOOD REP FROM THIS COUNTRY
10. MALAYSIA - NOT AS GOOD AS THE PREVIOUS DELEGATE FROM THIS COUNTRY
11. SRI LANKA - A LARA DUTTA LOOK ALIKE. I'M NOT SURE IF THAT'S A DISADVANTAGE FOR HER SINCE YOU SHOULDN'T LOOK LIKE THE PREVIOUS MISS UNIVERSE WINNERS.
THE TOP 5 ARE THE ONES I KEEP HEARING FROM DIFFERENT MB'S. THEY CERTAINLY TURNED SEVERAL HEADS THIS YEAR. GOODLUCK TO ALL.
Greetings!

Miss Thailand snatches costume prize in Miss Universe 2005
BANGKOK, May 26 (Xinhuanet) -- Miss Thailand Chanaporn Rosjan has won the best costume award in the first round of Miss Universe 2005 competition, the third Thai lady to snare the award in the Miss Universe pageant.
The traditional Thai costume, glittered on Rosjan, stood out onthe stage and received enthusiastic applause from the audience in the first round of competition Wednesday night. Miss Mexico Laura Elizondo was second runner-up, seizing the best fancy costume category, reported The Nation newspaper on Thursday.
In the 1969 and 1988 Miss Universe competition, beauty queen Saengduan Manwong and Pornthip Nakhirankanok were also rewarded with the best costume prizes.
Designed by fabric expert Theerapan Chanchareon, the costume was inspired from the apparel of court ladies during the Ayutthayaperiod. The tiara is imitated to a period piece on display in a museum in Philadelphia in the United States.
The accessories, including a bracelet and belt, are made of real gold. The textiles were weaved from golden silk and was time-consuming. The outfit costs some 1 million baht (23,800 US dollars).
This year's Miss Universe Pageant brought together 82 beauties from 82 countries to compete for the most coveted beauty title of the world. The final will take place on May 31.
Thanks for your info. It's a great one. I totally love the simplicity and style. (NT) -- B, 05:41:22 05/26/05 Thu

Personally for Asian delegates,I feel...
India -- There's something mysterious and exotic in this girl. She would not have won Miss India for nothing, right?
Sri Lanka -- Comparable to the Indian delegate, this girl is beautiful and fashionable. She has to shine to bring Sri Lanka to the semis.
China -- Not bad girl than I would call a lady. She's pretty and vibrant but I feel she's lack in elegance.
Korea -- Beautiful but her height!!??
Japan -- Just take a look at her height and attitude with that exotic look and nose. Reminds me of Evelina of Greece 2001.Needless to say, sure a semi-finalist and even winner. She may bring home the Japanese Mikimoto crown back home!
Singapore -- To me, she's pretty and has a rather good figure. She speaks really well in her australian accent and walks well too. She's not a favourite here but seeing her performance, I am sure you guys will change your mind.
Malaysia -- One of the weakest Malaysian representatives these years. She's kind and such but I don't think Donald will want her in his Trumph Tower.
Philippines -- I must admit I didn't like her initially but she grew with elegance and looks. I think if this time round Asia is hosting...if history repeats just like in Ecuador where so many Latins make the cut, this year Philippines should not miss it anymore! she's tanner, tonner and prettier!
Thailand -- I love to see Thai delegate making the semis. They have such great upbringings and respect for individuals.Of cause, we don't base on just that but she's revamped into aprettier lady. She's elegant but her figure and walking skills,I am unsure. I wish her the very best of luck!!!
Indonesia/Vietnam/Taiwan --I have no news for now.
Best wishes to all.
I believe Philippines,Japan will sure be in the top 10 and as for Thailand maybe top 15.Hope all get in as we are Asian! (NT) -- Ramli, 20:53:14 05/05/05 Thu

PARADE BY THE POOL : Home-grown beauties seek to redefine Asian mystique
Published on May 12, 2005
As this year’s Miss Universe pageant is being held in Bangkok, Asian contestants are sure to hog the spotlight as they strive to provide the world with a fresh definition of Asian beauty.
Miss Philippines Gionna Cabrera, 22, is the girl to watch. A graduate of integrated marketing and communications at the University of Asia and the Pacific, she has one of the most enchanting smiles in the contest.
Cabrera began her career as a professional model after she was discovered by French designer Pascal Banet at the age of 16. She stands 172cm (five-feet nine-inches) tall.
Her chances at the event can only be helped by the fact that her father, Rod Cabrera, is a pal of General Chavalit Yongchaiyudh.
She won the Miss Philippines title because of her charm and elegance. The witty responses she gave during the question-and-answer session elicited rousing applause from the audience and impressed the panel of judges.
She would like to gain experience in journalism, working as a reporter or a broadcaster. She believes that all greatness and glory is bound by time and we should be fully aware of our non-permanence and passing nature.
Miss India Amrita Thapar, 22, has piercing brown eyes to match her beautiful brown hair. She likes to travel to new destinations and loves sketching, trekking and kick-boxing. She should enjoy watching Thai boxing, too.
In her youth, she had a chance to travel extensively across India because her father worked in the defence forces.
“This travel exposed me to the rich culture of India, made me more flexible and adaptable as a person and appreciate beauty in diversity,” she said.
However, her ultimate passion is designing and styling garments. She would like to launch her own clothing line with Indian and international styles.
Miss Singapore Cheryl Tay, 24, is a vet. She has a sincere smile that brightens up all around her. She likes movies, reading, music, running, swimming, horse riding, rock climbing, dancing, relaxing at the beach and playing with her dog.
To get her veterinary degree she had to work on a farm where they bred cattle for meat.
“It was late winter and I had to get up at 6am to do pregnancy tests on some cows. It was freezing. The testing requires putting your whole arm up a cow’s behind and having a good feel around. Although it was not the most pleasant job, I was keen to get in there for a bit of warmth.”
She would like to manage her own veterinary hospital in the future.
Miss Malaysia Angela Gan, 23, wants to become a child psychologist and run her own childcare centre. She has a BA in childhood studies and is now pursuing her master’s degree in early childhood education.
She says she had a happy childhood with three younger sisters and was totally dependent on her family. She overcame new challenges and fears when she finally had to go abroad to study. She found independence and confidence in herself.
A born-again Christian, Gan gave her life to Christ in 2000.
“The most interesting thing about me is that I am able to mix around with people no matter where I go,” she said.
She was born and raised in Tawan, Sabah, a small town in eastern Malaysia.
Miss Indonesia Artika Sari Devi, 25, has a law degree and a strong determination to help children.
Born on a beautiful island off Sumatra, she loves white sands and blue sea. Her hero is RA Kartini, who introduced education and equal rights to women in Indonesia. Her childhood was filled with dancing, theatre and drama performances.
She is interested in sharing and providing children with love, not to mention travelling to different places to soak in cultural experiences.
Devi is determined to change the old-fashioned perception of gender. As a representative of the world’s most populous Muslim nation, she says the Miss Universe pageant represents women’s empowerment and a chance to increase the tourism industry by introducing Indonesia to the outside world.
She doesn’t think such pageants are demeaning toward women, even though she reportedly spent some time wondering if she should join a pageant that requires contestants to parade around in swimsuits.
She loves animals too, and has a dog, five fish and a turtle.
Miss Vietnam Pham Thu Hang was the first beauty to arrive in Bangkok, in a high-profile welcoming ceremony attended by former pageant winners Apasra Hongsakul and Chananporn Rosjan.
The 177-cm-tall beauty arrived in an Ao Dai costume, the national dress of Vietnam.
With her long, black, straight hair, Hang possesses all the beauty of traditional Vietnamese women, but she also represents the new generation of young Vietnamese with her interest in world affairs.
Hot Picks -- Witlz, 11:26:15 05/13/05 Fri [1]
For today's hotlist, i based it on the pictures i saw in the web. Basically, pics of their trips, pre taping , videos and swimsuits. This is a feature on the very noticeable girls on the pageant. The list will be added everytime a contestant would do something noticeable.
1. Miss Japan - a mix of oriental and asian looks. This girl has all the possibilities of becoming a forerunner. And just imagine the height!( 6'2 ) damn! wherever she goes, she gets noticed!
2. Miss Philippines - i have mixed feelings on her. She has this very unique beauty. She could fool us by her different personality through her looks. This day, she looks very sweet, the next day, she looks like a vixen and the next day, she looks like a latina! WHeew! nonetheless, she is one of the girls to watch for!
3. Miss Czech Republic - she reminds me of Miss Cyprus 2002. Damn! i was really mezmerized when i saw her photos in the MU website. She is tall and she is not your regular blonde!
4. Miss Antigua and Barbuda - Shermain won the Miss Talent award in the Miss World pageant last December that earned her a spot in the finals. But that is not enough, she is very eccentric and got lots of substance inside of her! I mean, she is a girl that deserves a second look! She reminds me of Mpule Kwelagobe.
5. Miss Sri Lanka - wow! Didnt expect her to be this beautiful! Very Stylish and Very classy. Not to mention that she is a fashiond designer, that could be a plus for her to earn the attention. She is a good resemblance of Lara Dutta. Very low profile but the crowd keeps an eye on her.
6.Miss Croatia - Simplicity is not always a beauty, but for Gelena, being truly simple and beautiful is effortless to her. This young lady could bring the first title of this very beautiful nation in europe!
7. Miss Korea - Say bye bye to traditional korean women and lets welcome SO YOUNG KIM! very modern chic and classy!
8. Miss Norway - Helene deserves a spot in here! she has a very unique beauty that would let you have a second look! with an asian decent, gosh! she is just drop dead gorgeous!
9.Miss South Africa - Claudia is the perfect cover girl of any magazine. She reminds me of Estee Lauder models. WOW! she is just so ravishing and very much beautiful! you guys must have to be serious about this blonde because she has the beauty every asian would love to see!
10. Miss Lebanon - Nadine failed in Miss World but that didnt leave us to ignore her. She is like a doll that if placed on a shelf, a lot of girls would envy and a lot of guys would die to buy her! Nadine is a mix of asian and caucasian beauty and was perfectly made. as if , God didnt sleep while making her!
11. Miss Singapore - dont ignore this girl. She is very vivacious and among all her good qualities, she is very smart and stylish!
this is just a preliminary list and a lot of girls are still getting noticed every day. Remember, every move is considered!
