What is happening to the fishing tackle shop - are they relocating somewhere else. Do we really need another restaurant / take away in Crosskeys!!

I agree. We really don't need another eatery in Crosskeys, next to the Balti restaurant, aroud the corner from 2 more takeaways and 100 yards from the chip shop. Think of the extra parking - the people who use these places are too lazy to walk all the way from the car park next to St. Catherines (after all, they have to cross the whole width of the road) so they park on the corners, block the access lanes and double park making life difficult for local residents!!!

Market forces my freinds, if there was no demand for a Thai restaurant then why would anyone attempt to open one.
Personally I think Crosskeys would benefit from new business, after all it was a thriving village years ago and has unfortunately become a backwater since the pits closed.
At the moment what choice do people have if they want to go for a decent meal, you have to drive out of the area.

When the railway re-opens it will surely be a boost for Crosskeys making it commuting distance and ideal for people who work but cannot afford to live in Cardiff. These people would be more likely to want to live here if there are some decent facilities.

Yes Crosskeys Does need to benefit from some thriving Businesses, and it needs to smarten up but surely do we need another Restuarant right Next door to the one we already have, Can Market forces possibly show the need for this in Crosskeys!!

Whilst the mention has been made with Reference to the Parking and the New Planned Railway Station When are the People using these Facilities/Shops going to start using the Public Car Parking Facilities that Crosskeys has, why must they continuously Park on yellow Lines on the Main Road, or Most often or Not in Woodward Road opposite these facilities, This Includes the Dentists Patients, Residents from the Top end of Risca Road where they have no where to park, the Newly Opened Community Hall where they hold Brownies, Parties and Meetings, the Local Bowling Team who meet up there it is starting to become a Traffic Nightmare in the street on most Days/evenings. But like the Public Convenience Situation on Crosskeys Corner if the Car Park was to be taken away everyone would start to complain and Most Complaints would possibly come from those who do not use it.

It is about time the area had a complete shake up if it hoping to bring people back to this village.

I agree Bob, it is time people made the most of the facilities we have. Frank suggested that market forces may suggest we need another restaurant. A few weeks ago my wife and I went to the Balti restaurant - it was a Friday night. In all the time we were there, one other family had a meal, one man on his own sat down for a meal and 2 or three families came in and ordered take aways. This does not suggest market forces demanding restaurant tables - only 3 tables were needed that night. Clearly, no more people were expected either, as the staff levels were so low they were kept busy all night with a handful of people.

I have no doubt that a new Thai restaurant would be busy initially, my wife and I would probably pay a visit!! But after the novelty passes, how long will it last?

I agree with Frank that we need to attract more businesses to Crosskeys, but why another restaurant? Why not something a little more beneficial such as a chemist? Also, who is opening the Thai restaurant? Unless they are from Crosskeys, then the money spent there will be taken out of the area anyway, with no tangible benefit to the community.

I was under the impression that its the Balti owners who are opening the Thai place ???? I thought that the balti and Thai place would be knocked through to make one ???? I'm pretty sure that the Balti owners are also the owners of the, now fishing tackle shop.

I`m sure a Thai restaurant is much more acceptable than a so called fishing shop selling knives and swords.Actually the balti does own this shop but both restaurants will be entirely seperate

The "so called fishing shop" as previously mentioned, is fully legal and well run, also, it is a well stocked shop that helps draw locals to the canal , where else would you go to collect bait etc etc etc , I am sure pontymister angling society , ( who do a lot to ensure the canal is upkept and well stocked with fish)will be relieved if the tackle shop will stay , as will many other crosskeys residents. After all >>> how many more eating places are needed in crosskeys ???? I for one hate to see the litter left by those who have take away food and drop the wrappings on the floor. Will we have more litter if the thai place opens ????????? As far as I am concerned there are enough food and drink providers in crosskeys as it is.
p.s
I am not connected with pontymister angling , or , anything to do with the tackle shop or resteraunt, just a crosskeys resident that was born and bred in crosskeys, and have seen so many changes, and not for the best I may add.
Every body has an opinion.

As I said in my previous message "everyone has an opinion" and is entitled to air their views ,but to ressort to sarcasm as a reply, mmmmmm leaves me wondering if we can hold a decent debate/conversation on these boards, I now have my doubts.

Well its not a matter of having opinions or airing views its a matter of selling lethal weapons under the guise of a fishing tackle shop. How the police allow this sort of thing to happen i dont know.I`m sure Lemy Bullock would agree with me.Where the hell do you think these people get these weapons. As far as myself and numerous other people are concerned this shop owner is completely irresponsible.I think thats a decent response to your mmmmmmmmmmmmmm

please dont get me wrong , I totaly agree with you on the point of selling lethal weapons , and believe me , being a pensioner I too am very concerned that the police/local council have allowed this to carry on (planning permission must have been granted ?? for the sale of such weapons) , after all it's a contradiction of the police because they regulary ask for people to hand in such weapons to their local police station , yet they still allow the sale of such weapons, Baffleing!!!!!.
However my main point of this forum was to say That I personaly would rather see a fishing tackle shop (obviously minus the lethal weapons) instead of another eating establishment, crosskeys is not a very big village and we already have 6 eating places, how many more do we need ??? the streets are already littered with wrappings from take away food,we dont want anymore.
