hi
does anybody know where colliers row was in crosskeys, in the census it comes under machen, but i have since heard it was in crosskeys, if anyone is intrested, i have a list of the names of the men killed in the explosions at blackvein colliery, will happily check if a name needs to be, also can anyone remember the purnells, hoskins and chicks in crosskeys

Hi Susan, I think that Colliers Row was on the opposite side of the river where Grove Road is now. On a map dated 1902 it was down as Old Colliery Row.

Hiya. I've just come across this great site. I am Dot Chicks granddaughter. My grandfather Douglas Chick passed away in 1993. There is also a Chick family in Abercarn.

I remember a Mrs Chick from Crosskeys will check with my mother Margaret Leyshon we lived in Tredegar St but moved in 1961

There was a Margery Hoskins in my class at Waunfawr and I used to deliver the Argus for Bertha Chick who was always sat outside Joe's cafe on the corner. There was also a chick family in Salisbury Street.

i am berthas grandaughter, i used to help her collect the money for the papers, i spent a lot of my childhood with her, although we only lived in wattsville,
its nice to hear from people who remember her
