Even though detractors point to the outdoor Arena Santa Giuliana as a concession to pop music (Elton John's mediocre but entertaining set was bereft of even an ounce of jazz), this year's shows by pianist Oscar Peterson and crooner Tony Bennett were not only near sellouts but also immense crowd pleasers.
