Dr. Ron Gurney of EHS1966 wrote to Mr. Kelley. Mr. Kelley's wife Gerri responded back with a touching note. Here it is:

"Dear Dr. Gurney,
Thank you so much for the beautiful letter. Yes, you have reached your 10th grade geometry teacher and his wife!
It couldn't have come at a better time. My husband was in White Plains Hospital recovering from a fall and aspiration pneumonia when yhour wonderful, inspirational letter arrived at our home in Hartsdale. I hope you don't mind me replying for him.
How thoughful of you to take the time to write and thank George for his efforts on your behalf. It meant a great deal to him and to some of the children who read it. The others will be receiving a copy later this week.
We were delighted to hear of your accomplishments in the medical field and we hope you continue to enjoy your profession.
George loved teaching and loved young people. He had a few jobs before realizing this was what he wanted to do. He went to night school and studied over the summers for about 4 years when we were first married to reach his goals. It certainly paid off.
Again, our sincere thanks for taking the time to write and remember "Mr. Kelley". We will treasure your letter and pass it along to the grandchildren hoping they will become either teachers - or doctors! Please thank Mike Stempel as well.
Our best to you and yours."

George and Gerri Kelley

May I suggest that if you feel like writing Mr. & Mrs. Kelley, you do so!
