From about 1955 to 1960, Paul and I were part of the "gang" that hung around Waverly Lanes, took frequent jaunts to Playland (often in Paul's VW Bug), and spent countless hours sitting at the counter in Big Top on Mill Rd. Eastchester was a sleepy town, nothing like today, where you easily recognized, if not knew, almost everyone you saw at the Mill Rd./White Plains Rd. intersection. There was nobody our age who didn't know the familiar sound of Paul's famous "Donald Duck" imitation, and, after 3 or 4 years of it, Paul was the only one who laughed.
Like so many other small town "gangs" in the 50's, we all went our separate ways after HS graduation in 1961, never to cross paths again. But here we are, in our mid-60's left only with memories of back then. Well, some of mine will always be Paul's sense of humor, his great friendship, what a lousy bowler he was, and how much he loved his cherished VW Bug. I, for one, will never forget him.
