This reply is a late, but it was a Roman centurion's outfit with armor modeled from cardboard & covered with tin foil to look like metal, worn over a tunic in Roman purple (dark crimson), sandals with leg lacings, a helmet with a feather plume, a short sword, shield, and gauntlets. My parents made it for me when I was 8 or 9. I also wore it in a school play, and my brother wore it for Halloween a year or two later. I still have a picture of me wearing it -- Rome's shortest, scrawniest centurion.
