Author: Doesn't show on the WVAFF website but says the queen goes
Subject: The Gassway Centennial Days Pageant was announced in the paper today

The Braxton Citizens News has an ad for this pageant to be held on June 18 at Mid Mountain Lanes in Flatwoods.

As of tonight the WVAFF website still does not have this pageant listed or the event either.

One person for certain and a few others said they checked as well and were told by WVAFF this event or pageant IS NOT registered yet but they still have time to.

It DOES NOT mention the date of the event except to say the royalty will reign but county rumor says the event is early June and the pageant IS NOT till June 18.

The ad DOES SAY the Queen goes to Charleston in 2006. It DOES NOT say if the pageant is open statewide.

It does say pick up forms at Triplett Business Services (The Formal Affair is there too), Alicias Beauty Shop, the Mayors Office (does not say what mayor in the county assuming it is Gassaway), and Leggs Beauty Shop. It DOES SAY the judges are out of county.

Not trying to stir the pot...just post and ask DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANY UPDATED info on the EVENT date and such?

I am guessing there will not be a festival, like Summerfest last year when they appointed their queen to go to Charleston. The queen who was chosen was the daughter of the directors friend. I question the validity of this pageant, only because of that, and one of the contestants works with the director. My opinion only, I just don't think it's a good idea. That being said, is based on rumors only. I hope it does go better than that, though.

What is the WV Sweetheart going to have a festival? I checked the website, and it is a member.

WV Summerfest put down last year that they were going to have a festival but did not. They've only had one, and it was a country music concert that did not go over well, I was told. I have not seen anything at all about Centennial Days festival, and this is not a big town. News would have traveled fast. I dunno.

Sweetheart had a little advertised festival the night before their pageant which was more like a school carnival but was an event. There was fortune telling, a few games and baked goods and a food sale.

Mayors Office told me a sing this weekend (pageant not till the 18th) and yard sales and then Gassaway Days but each event can only send one queen have one queen per event (big queens 16-21)and there is already a Gassaway Days Pageant on the 25th.

I hope someone can get this clarified before someone gets hurt.

I guess there is nothing wrong with a concert or other type function being your event or festival as long as there is an event now that it is required and the pageant is held before the event.
