Subject: Obituary - Ida Mae Sills Buckels - Louise Buckels' Mom

Ida Mae Sills Buckels

Ida Mae Sills Buckels, 95, of Cleveland, (the lady with the tulips on the corner of 5th and College), died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, at her home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Ray Funeral Home in Cleveland with the Rev. Milton Burd and Rev. Jimmy Breland, whom she loved dearly, officiating. Burial will follow in North Cleveland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Buckels was born on Oct. 11, 1910 in Grange to Samuel Joseph Sills and Carrie Dotson Sills. She was the eleventh of twelve children. She married Martin Douglas Buckels in Tunica on April 24, 1934. Douglas and Ida moved to Cleveland on March 1, 1952 when he became president of the Cleveland office of the Grenada Banking System, now Regions Bank. In June of 1959, she became employed full time as secretary/teller of the Cleveland Federal Savings and Loan Assoc., now the Cleveland Community Bank. She remained in the position of Secretary of the Bank until she and Mr. Buckels' retirement in July of 1992.

Ida was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a wonderful cook, and especially so for every holiday season. She loved to play bridge, and she had a great sense of humor as well as a quiet compassion, both of which served her well her entire lifetime. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cleveland for over 53 years. For the last decade of her life, she enjoyed the television ministry of the church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Douglas Buckels; and a granddaughter, Sarah Barr Szot.

Survivors include three daughters, Corinne (Connie) Buckels Barr, Carolyn Buckels Armstrong and Louise Buckels Vaughn, all of Cleveland; seven grandchildren, Anne Barr Teasley of Knoxville, Suzan Armstrong Dye, Nancy Armstrong Tierce, and John Armstrong, all of Cleveland, Doug Vaughn of Pass Christian, and Edward Vaughn and Melissa Vaughn Stewart, both of Cleveland; 13 great-grandchildren, Jonathan Szot of Cleveland, Abby and Amanda Teasley of Knoxville, Elizabeth and Robyn Dye and Trey, Sara Beth and John Douglas Tierce, all of Cleveland, Emily and Justin Vaughn of Pass Christian, and William and Tyler Vaughn,and Anna Vaughn and Forman Stewart, all of Cleveland; and also her loving caregiver, Jean Trotter.

Pallbearers will be Doug Vaughn, Edward Vaughn, John Armstrong, Zack Stewart, Will Tierce, Malcolm Dye, Sam Teasley and Jonathan Szot.

Memorials may be made to the Cleveland Bolivar Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 1995, Cleveland, MS 38732.
