一九八零、一九八一或一九八二年出生人士開始換領智能身份證

　　凡於一九八零、一九八一或一九八二年出生的現有身份證持有人，均須於二零零六年三月二十七日至五月二十七日期間前往智能身份證中心辦理換證手續。

　　由即日起，合資格的申請人可致電熱線1838 333，或登入「生活易」網站www.esd.gov.hk，或使用「生活站」終端機進行預約。入境事務處發言人稱：「申請人宜先預約換證時間，以確保可在所選擇的時段內辦理手續。」

　　如身份證上印有居留身份符號「A」或「***」，或身份證於一九九九年一月一日或以後發出並印有居留身份符號「R」，申請人只須帶同現有身份證前往申請。不屬上述類別的合資格申請人，除帶同現有身份證外，還須帶備旅行證件，以顯示其現時在港的居留身份。

　　換領新身份證計劃的對象是全港市民，不論是永久性居民或在本港就業、投資、居留、就讀或當外籍家庭傭工的臨時居民，均納入計劃內。僱主應讓他們的家庭傭工前往辦理換證手續。

　　一九七八或一九七九年出生人士的換證期將於二零零六年三月二十五日結束。仍未換證的合資格人士應盡快辦理手續，以免在限期前出現擁擠的情況。

　　如未能在指明限期內換領新身份證而又無法提供合理解釋，即屬違法。違例者會被檢控，並可被罰款5,000元。市民若於換證限期內不在香港，應在返港後三十天內補辦換證手續。
