When you leave Okinawa, you have to pay airfare for your animals at the Naha Airport - There are two types of pricing - International and Domestic. International costs are about double the price of Domestic flights (not that there is any difference in the way they handle pets - they have a written regulation which allows them to charge more - they would be happy to show you that reg). Once you hit Mainland Japan you will pay another fee (our fee from Okinawa to Tokyo was the same price as Tokyo to Seattle)
If you purchase two seperate tickets for your animals you will pay less (Okinawa to Tokyo - Tokyo to USA). Sometimes the airlines even have discounts for pets....they were around $50 per animal from Oki to Tokyo at the time we were traveling...we had to pay the higher cost because we had international tickes....what a way to put the screws to you.
