Subject: Frankenstein (1931) 80th Anniversary

Frankenstein was released 80 years ago, on November 21, 1931. It remains the definitive movie version of the Mary Shelley novel, and one of the greatest horror films in history.

It was the first of four classic horror pictures that James Whale would direct at Universal. The others were The Old Dark House (1932), The Invisible Man (1933) and Bride of Frankenstein (1935).

The stellar cast included Colin Clive, Mae Clarke, John Boles, Edward Van Sloan, Frederick Kerr, Dwight Frye, Lionel Belmore and Marilyn Harris. Boris Karloff, of course, was the Monster.
