Subject: Island of Lost Souls (1932) on MeTV, January 12

Svengoolie will host the movie Island of Lost Souls (1932) this coming Saturday on MeTV. It's a Paramount Picture, not a Universal Picture, but is still highly recommended for fans of classic horror.

Some sources date the film as a 1933 release, but it originally premiered in December 1932.

It was nice seeing this classic on television for the first time in a long while (I don't have TCM).

The cast includes Charles Laughton, Richard Arlen, Leila Hyams, Bela Lugosi, Kathleen Burke (The Panther Woman), Arthur Hohl, Stanley Fields, Paul Hurst, Hans Steinke, Tetsu Komai and George Irving.

Among those uncredited extras playing the Beasts are body builder and stunt man Joe Bonomo, and actor and stunt man Duke York.

Duke York would later play King Kala in the first Flash Gordon (1936) serial. He also appeared in several Three Stooges shorts.
