Ah, yes..the 1933 version, my favorite. I saw the CG loaded 2005 version, the 1976 version (so-so to me) but the ole' Kong, with Robt.Armstrong and Fay Wray was/is still the definitive King Kong.

Interestingly (or not) I saw this as a kid every time it ran for the whole week on "Million Dollar Movie" in the NY area, every time! Never tired of it. Moreso interestingly, maybe, later on, much much later, I realized that a lot was cut...seemed Kong munched and stomped on the natives; that was deleted on films I saw some time ago, maybe other stuff also...don't recall.

Clear, uncut versions can be found on dvd and sometimes movie channels such as TCM and others. (I doubt the monsters furor would be considered that horrifying nowadays.) A good movie, in glorious black and white, it still holds up after all this time, to me anyway.

The original King Kong is one my all time favorites too.

King Kong was theatrically re-released in 1938 and several more times in the 1940s and early 1950s, and it was during one or more of those re-releases that the cuts were made.

By the time King Kong made it to television in the 1950s all the cuts had been made, including the munching and chewing scenes Officer Torch mentioned. Others included the scene of Kong picking up a woman thinking it is Ann, then dropping her when he realizes his mistake. Also a scene of a brontosaurus chewing on one of the crewmen on Skull Island was cut.

I first saw the movie on TV as a kid in the 1960s, but had no idea about the cuts.

At some point most of the deleted scenes were located and restored. The first uncut version I saw was a VHS copy I bought sometime in the the late 1980s or early 1990s.

The original "King Kong" is one of my favorite movies too.

I like the 1933 version much better than the 1976 and 2005 versions.

I thought the plots where having the girls falling in love or whatever with Kong was stupid.
Fay Wray acted how a woman normally would be if she was picked up by some huge ape like Kong.
Even if the animal didn't hurt her, I believe anyone would be scared and would try to get away from it.

Oh, I didn't care for all the CGI in the 2005 KK either.

King Kong made it's NYC TV debut on WOR's "Million Dollar Movie" on Monday March 5, 1956 and played the entire week twice each night, Mon-Fri at 7:30 PM and 10:30 PM. And on Saturday and Sunday at 1:30, 3:00 and 4:30 PM.

WOR ran KK again on the "Million Dollar Movie" in 1957 and then again in 1958.

After that, KK showed up on WOR at various times up through to the late 1980s.

On a Sunday night, May 8, 1977, WOR debuted King Kong with the cut scenes added back into KK. All the scenes Tim mentioned and also a scene where Kong is tearing off some of Fay Wray's dress was added.

I remember WOR running a big promo for weeks about the debut of the uncut King Kong. Well anyway, I made sure I didn't miss it.
