In reply to: Tim 's message, "Remembering Lon Chaney Jr (1906-1973) 40 Years Later" on 03:55:25 07/12/13 Fri

I remember the day Lon Chaney Jr died. It left a void.
He was my favorite of the Big 7 Horror stars.

Of the 7 big horror stars, Lugosi, Karloff, Chaney Jr, Atwill, Zucco, Carradine, and Price, the only two left
in 1973 was John Carradine and Vincent Price.

Lionel Atwill died in 1946 three years before I was born.
And Bela Lugosi died in 1956, one year before I got to
know who he was.

It was on Shock Theater in 1957 that I got to know all the horror greats.

It was nice knowing at the time when I first started watching the old Unviversal films on Shock Theater that Karloff, Lon Chaney Jr, George Zucco, John Carradine and Vincent Price were still alive.

But later I found out that George Zucco was in a santorium
and hadn't made any films in years. George Zucco passed away in 1960.

Anyway, my favorite Lon Chaney Jr films were his Wolf Man
portrayals.

Favorites:
The Wolf Man
Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man
House of Frankenestein
House of Dracula
A&C Meet Frankenstein
The Ghost of Frankenstein
Of Mice and Men
Man Made Monster
Son of Dracula
Weird Woman
Dead Man's Eyes
The Indestructible Man - Cheapy but Lon does a good job here.

I really like the Kharis Mummy flicks, but with all the makeup, it's hard to tell that's realy Lon playing the mummy.
