In reply to: Rick 's message, "All-time favorite list of Lugosi & Karloff films" on 19:11:13 01/31/14 Fri

Bela Lugosi & Boris Karloff made eight films together.

The Black Cat (1934)
Gift of Gab (1934)
The Raven (1935)
The Invisible Ray (1936)
The Son of Frankenstein (1939)
Black Friday (1940)
You'll Find Out (1940)
The Body Snatcher (1945)

Here is the order of my favorite Karloff & Lugosi Films:

SON OF FRANKENSTEIN - This is my favorite of the K&L films, but because of the heavy makeup they wore, I don't always think of it as a K&L movie. This is my third favorite of the Frankenstein films.

THE RAVEN - My personal favorite of the K&L Parings, sans the heavy makeup. Lugosi goes over the top with his mad doctor role, but he's fun to watch. Karloff was more played for sympathy.

THE INVISIBLE RAY - Bela is the good guy here and Boris is the mad scientist. Their scenes together are great here.

BLACK FRIDAY - Not considered to be up to the other Universal K&L Horror films, but I find it quite enjoyable.
I used to wish their roles were reversed, but after thinking about it, I can't picture Karloff in the Stanley Ridges part.
I do think though that Bela Lugosi would have been better in Karloff's role as the doctor, and Karloff would have been better in Lugosi's gangster part. And also would have been better had both of them appear in a few scenes together.

THE BLACK CAT - Most people pick BC as the best of the three 1930s K&L horror films. But the last time I watched this, I was getting kind of bored with some of the scenes.

THE BODY SNATCHER - Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi's last film together is pretty good.

YOU'LL FIND OUT - Peter Lorre also appears in this. The only recommendation for this is for all the scenes with Lugosi, Karloff and Lorre.

GIFT OF GAB - I've never seen this so I can't give an accurate rating. But all that I've read about it, and being a completist, sounds like something I'd only want
for the very small scenes with K&L.
