Subject: Favorite moments in 'Our Man Flint' (1965)

An excellent film with James Coburn breaking out of the bad guy mold to play super agent, Derek Flint. A deranged organization called GALAXY operate on a private island and are using special intelligence to control the weather. Flint infiltrates the island and wreaks havoc with GALAXY's men and chief nemesis, Rodney. Many memorable moments that lead to Flint's victory on the island and he saves the world from the evil GALAXY.

I have both of these from TCM...didn't have an opportunity to view yet. Will do so and render my opinion on this and the sequel later on. Also, not long ago, picked up Matt Helm Lounge. Being a lifelong 007 afficiando, I enjoy Bond or Bond like films, spoofs, etc. OMG! From a film standpoint, we're talking nearly a half century!

Being a 007 James Bond afficianado, I find it tough to find flicks to compete with that franchise....but, there are a few here and there that I found entertaining.

In my opinion, while "Our Man Flint" doesn't quite make the British Bond, for me anyway, it is an entertaining movie from the Sixties with James Coburn playing an American go-it-alone super agent, Derek Flint. He was wealthy, sharp, a ladies' man for sure. He is into martial arts, self defense, can place himself in some type of hypnotic trance to stop or slow his heartbeat, making some think he is dead.

He's a kind of Dirty Harry type, not one to follow orders...but gets the job done. I saw this film decades ago, maybe in the theater, on TV going back some, and it was recently on FXM (Fox Movie Channe) not TCM as I indicated before in error. I remembered the theme song and the ending of the movie with ...barrels, yes, barrels...he uses these to help save several beauties from peril. The island where the bad guys are, especially 3 scientists wanting to control the weather using various devices to trigger volcanos is eventually destroyed.

The movie has various elements...influenced somewhat perhaps by Dr. No, Flash Gordon, The Phantom Empire, The Time Machine (Eloi especially), some Twilight Zone eps, maybe Metropolis, some Jules Verne material, and others.

Coburn plays the good guy, and did a reasonably good job. Instead of bad guy, Western bandit, etc, he did a 180 with this, and FYI,I also enjoyed a TV mini series (1978)where he played a private eye...a very colorful, twist packed mystery with a strong cast (it's on DVD) called The Dain Curse, about 5hrs long.
