An excellent pair of reviews of Universal's first sequel to Dracula (1931). It is nice to see one of the reviewers agree with my opinion that Dracula's Daughter is "the most underrated of the entire Universal horror cycle".

The cast is excellent, especially Gloria Holden and Irving Pichel, as well as Otto Kruger and Marguerite Churchill. And Edward Van Sloan is always "a welcome presence" in the Universal horror classics.

I enjoy just about all the Universal Horror, especially the real oldies. And, though my favorite is still Bride of Frankenstein, yes....there is a certain something about Dracula's Daughter. I agree pretty much with the reviews Rick was kind enough to post, and Tim for his opinion. I agree with what Tim had to say about it.

Many Uni horror films, to me, have a certain sameness about them. Yeah, they're different, monsters, cast, acting..most enjoyable overall. But this one, which I saw decades back, and on a tape I bought last year, just seemed different. Maybe the acting of Gloria Holden, others in cast, the script..the film had some class to it. Hard to pinpont, but indeed an underrated gem. Title wise, one would think it's just another monster/ghoul type Uni sequel churned out..but it's just different, intelligent maybe, dunno...but a good one. Thumbs up for sure.
