Subject: RIP Miles Mander

Tomorrow is the passing date of the great character actor Miles Mander. He was probably most remembered for his work in two of the best Rathbone films: THE PEARL OF DEATH and THE SCARLET CLAW. He also did fine character work in THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GREY, WUTHERING HEIGHTS and THE BRIGHTON STRANGLER, with John Loder. He was also the Police Inspector in Bela Lugosi's RETURN OF THE VAMPIRE.

He left us much too soon, on 08 February 1946

The old character actors contributed so much to motion picture history without receiving a lot of recognition.

He also had a role in the Universal picture Phantom of the Opera (1943).

Tim! Thanks for reminding me... He played that louse, Pleyel. It was Pleyel's mistress who threw the acid in Claudin's face!

Just recently saw Manders give a touching performance as the down-and-out, alcoholic father of - of all people - Ginger Rogers, in THE PRIMROSE PATH (1940). Easily the best work I've seen him do.
