"You're gonna need a bigger boat..."

Sure, the 1971 TV movie Duel essentially launched Steven Spielberg's career as a filmmaker of note, but it was the summer of 1975 blockbuster Jaws that made him a household name, one of only a handful of directors whose names were known to the general public at the time.

There are some great moments in this one. The opening sequence is one of the most famous in motion picture history. My favorite character is Quint, the seasoned old shark hunter vividly brought to life in an amazing performance by Robert Shaw.

One memorable moment occurs when the stalwart trio of shark hunters sing "Show Me the Way to Go Home".

Someone noted that "Jaws did for the beach what Hitchcock's Psycho had done for showers years before."

I agree with Tim about the opening sequence being one of the most famous in Motion picture history.
And Robert Shaw as Quint is also my favorite character.

I don't scare easily, but the scene on the boat when they were tossing meat in the water and then the shark appears, did make me jump. And then the climax when the shark gets Quint was very tense, but I really hated to see him die.
