I try to watch any of the films with John Wayne.
All my top favorite John Wayne films are from other studios. And there are many.
Here's a few that spring to mind.
"Stage Coach," "Flying Tigers," "Sands of Iwo Jima,"
"High and the Mighty," "Rio Bravo," "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance,"

Out of Duke's Universal films, my favorite is "The Spoilers."

John Wayne's Universal Films:

The Sea Spoilers (1936) - Not Seen
Conflict (1936) - Fairly Good Boxing film
California Straight Ahead (1937) - Not Seen
I Cover the War (1937) - Not Seen
Idol of the Crowds (1937) - Not Seen
Adventure's End (1937) - Not Seen
Seven Sinners (1940) - Enjoyable first pairing of Duke & Marlene Dietrich
The Spoilers (1942) - Higly entertaining
Pittsburg (1942) - Fair
The War Wagon (1967) - Good Western
Hellfighters (1968) - Fair
Rooster Cogburn (1975) - Fair.. Nowhere near as good as "True grit."
