Wheeler Oakman played mostly bad guy roles...often as a super henchman. Did a lot of westerns, scifi flicks, gangster films. If you scroll down IMDb, you'll see he was in movies even prior to the Twenties! You'll also see him here and there in oldies on TCM, maybe not long, sometimes uncredited, but he's there. He was also in many serials.

joystar indicated Tarnak in Trip to Mars. (Sometimes I think some actors were born for certain roles...eg, Chas.Heston as Moses, Yul Brynner for Taras Bulba, Bogart as Casablanca's Rick, Middleton and Oakman for Flash Gordon fare.) Tarnak...I just can't see anyone else in that role but Oakman. He was also Lt. Patten in Buck Rogers, Lord Argo in The Phantom Empire, and more. For me though, his role as Tarnak gets my vote.
