Subject: Favorite moments in The Raven (1935)

The final installment in the Poe trilogy with Karloff, Lugosi and the beautiful Irene Ware as Jean. Watch for Ian Wolfe, too.

"POE...YOU ARE AVENGED!!!!"

Jean Thatcher's wonderfully "Art Deco" ballet sequence.

Poor Lester Matthews, essentially drowning as "Jerry", but making the very British best of it. "Full Marks"

A double treat for me, having Ian Wolfe and Samuel S. Hinds in the same film. It didn't matter WHAT they played, They were a joy.

"Well, they're some things ya can't 'elp doin' " in Boris' Cockney lisp, and his scream of rage when he sees what Vollin has done to him. "Full Marks" and a Knighthood to you.

Last, but never least. Lugosi in all his magnificence. As beautiful as Valentino and as mad as a Hatter! SUBLIME, and I love every single bit of it!

Bela Lugosi gives one his best over the top performances in "The Raven."

Every scene with Lugosi was great from start to finish.

Speaking of Ian Wolfe.
I liked the scene when the guests were talking about horses after playing with the horse race game.
Ian says "I grew up with horses." And the colonel's wife replied: "Yes I can see that when I look at you."

I laugh every time I see this part.

Karloff often got better roles than Lugosi, but in The Raven it was Bela who got the juicier part. One of his best performances, as Dan said.

I agree with Joystar about Samuel S. Hinds, as I recently watched the Universal B-picture Zanzibar (1940). Hinds role in it was very small, but he still made it memorable.
