Subject: What Universal Horror to watch on Halloween?

Halloween is Friday. Any idea what films you will be enjoying on that night?

Pretty much any Universal picture with Karloff and/or Lugosi would be suitable Halloween fare, but for me there is nothing that can compare to the two original classics, Dracula and Frankenstein. Renfield's sojourn at Borgo Pass. Count Dracula introduces himself at the castle. Henry Frankenstein's impassioned cry of "It's Alive!" This pair of cinematic masterpieces never fails to amaze and astonish. Perfect Halloween fodder.

The Invisible Man, The Black Cat, The Wolf Man and House of Frankenstein would also be favorites of mine for a Halloween evening.

If I were to choose a non-Universal, more "modern" film for viewing on this spookiest of holidays I suppose John Carpenter's Halloween (1978) would suffice. Really though, showing the Halloween movie on Halloween has been overdone, and I don't care for the film's sequels. It's a very good movie, but unfortunately its influence helped take the horror film genre into a different direction.

There used to be some fantastic "scary movie" marathons on various cable channels, including lots of the older stuff, but not so much anymore.

Tim

I haven't seen these in a while, so I'm thinking of watching "Werewolf of London" and 'Captive Wild Woman."
