A nearly forgotten Universal relic from the 1930s, it is actually a very entertaining murder mystery. The bulk of the action takes place aboard a train bound for Bombay. Memorable moments include:

The abduction/disappearance of Sir Anthony Daniels, with the subsequent search and investigation being taken over by Inspector Dyke. "No one really searches thoroughly, captain, except myself."

The discovery of the missing man's body in Hawley's compartment.

The opening of Doctor Lenoir's black bag, and the disposal of its deadly contents.

The frustrated photographer finally gets a shot. "What a picture, what a picture!"

The Inspector accuses Luke Patson, who attempts suicide.

The final destination and conclusion, with a hint of Dyke's next adventure. "...and as I remember, his wife was a very charming lady."

I've heard about this film being a very good mystery, but unfortunately, I've never seen it.

Excellent comments by Tim concerning this oldie, not very often seen. Guess one of my primary interests initially was its music and Flash Gordon connection in this regard, but it's a good murder mystery. Note, it's fast moving and can be tough to follow. But, I enjoy Charlie Chan type films, trains, intrigue, and this satisfies. If you manage to view it, be sure you're awake. I needed a couple of viewings, and some questions remain, but it's nevertheless enjoyable. Besides, things come together more or less with the familiar gathering of suspicious characters/suspects.

I enjoyed the sharp Inspector Dyke (Edmund Lowe), the sinister like appearance of John Davidson (1) as Xavier, Brandon Hurst as Pundit Chundra, and others. A lot occurs on the train, apparently noted for it's reknown on-time performance. Some interesting stops along the way at stations, eg, a maharajah gets killed where a loud welcoming band overrides the shot noise. Several exotic characters, scenes, plot/twists, make for a interesting, though busy movie,.. so, if it's on at 2 a.m. somewhere, record it for time shifting. View it fully alert maybe after a couple cups of joe. I'll give it thumbs up...for Horror/Drama and the Flash Gordon guys. If you like old steam trains, all the better. Interestingly, it's an old gem that can easily and enjoyably be watched more than once!
