Basil Rathbone seemed more like a movie star and leading man, in part due to his fame as Sherlock Holmes. Lionel Atwill was more of a character actor, although he was prominently featured in many films. Both men were actors of immense talent.

My all time favorite Atwill role is Inspector Krogh in Son of Frankenstein (1939). Karloff and Rathbone may have been the stars of the picture, but Lugosi and Atwill just about stole the show as Ygor and Krogh!

Rathbone is a great actor but I prefer Atwill in horror films. And Tim is right, Atwill and Lugosi stole the
Son of Frankenstein.

SON OF FRANKENSTEIN.
The dart game between Wolf and Krogh.

SHERLOCK HOLMES AND THE SECRET WEAPON:
The final confrontation with Moriarty. Holmes (Rathbone} buys time trying to convince Moriarty (Atwill) to drain him of blood rather than shoot him.
