Nuke some popcorn, pull up a chair, let's have some fun maybe..you guys are good, so I'm gonna have to try and trip you up. Let's try a matching test with more recent Universal fare. Section 1 will show a movie, with maybe a name, place, object. Section 2 will be somehow related, with possibly more than one. Pick the best matches. Feel free to add/comment and make up others. Mid winter blues time, so maybe light, pick me up "stuff" might be fun. Oh, a decent list for Universal is on Wikipedia. I'll limit my flicks to 5.

Section 1
1. 1963 The Birds (school teacher)
2. 1970 Colossus (the boss)
3. 1975 Jaws (Chief Brody)
4. 1993 Jurassic Park (Dinosaur)
5. 1999 End of Days (Satan)

Section 2
a. "Hello...Newman"
b. Robert Shaw
c. Movie 2010 (2001 sequel)
d. Super Computer
e. Gigantic Human
f. Christine
g. Bob Newhart

Hey! Best guess acceptable. Winners may receive a discount for tana leaves at local store.(Heh, heh)

An interesing quiz, Officer Torch! I will get things rolling by trying a couple.

1 and g. Suzanne Pleshette was a schoolteacher in Hitchcock's The Birds (1), and was Bob's wife Emily Hartley (also a schoolteacher) in the 1970s Bob Newheart Show (g).

3 and b and c and d. The cast of Jaws (3) included Robert Shaw (b) as Quint, an old shark hunter. Roy Scheider starred as police Chief Brody (3), and was also in the movie 2010 (c) a sequel to 2001 A Space Odyssey. 2001 included the Super Computer (d) HAL, and I think the sequel 2010 did as well?

Robert Shaw was a great actor. This was the first movie I saw him in, back in 1975. I went and saw it countless times. I recall when the film was reran on TV, most of his death scene was cut out at the end.

I went and saw all the films Shaw was in after Jaws; The Deep (1977), Black Sunday (1977), Force Ten from Navarone (1978) and Avalanche Express (1979).

He suffered a heart attack when 'Express was being made in 1978. He was 51. It was released in 1979, after his death. Shaw was a heavy drinker. I was saddened. I went to see the film and he was in a good part of it, but not all of it, due to his untimely death. Lee Marvin was also in it.

Shaw did a great job as Quint. Very charismatic. At the time I saw Jaws I didn't connect him with the actor in From Russia with Love (1963) at all. It wasn't until some time later that I realized they were the same.

2 with c and d. Colossus The Forbin Project (1970) about a Super Computer (d), which by subject links it to 2010 (c). Just a guess on this one.

Answers

1)g...Suzanne Pleshette (Emily Hartley on Newhart's show.) She also appeared at closing on one of Newhart's series, where upon awakening, he describes a nightmare he had about operating a New England inn ..and he was telling it to Emily! (One of the most innovative, clever show ending/twists ever in my opinion.)

Note: #2 and 3 below were tricky, maybe even weasel worded....sorry, but Igor (and Ming) made me do it.

2)d. and c.....Colossus was d. > Super Computer in the Forbin project, AND, super computers were also in c)2010 and earlier Hal in 2001

3) b. Robert Shaw played feisty Quint in Jaws. Roy Scheider was great in same movie as Chief Brody, AND was also in movie c. 2010.(The latter was a good flick if you didn't see it.)

4)a. Hey! You gotta be a Seinfeld fan for this..>> Newman, by Wayne Knight. He was also a hit on sitcom 3rd Rock from the Sun. In Jurassic Park, Knight played a greedy guy who became Rex's dinner when he got stuck trying to leave the park for a shady deal.

5. f. The devil crashes a party for the turn of the Millenium searching for his chosen bride, Christine York.

Though not 100%, Tim's postings scored highly and he was not tripped by trick questions. Quite impressive! Inquiries will be made of gypsies, gnomes, trolls to locate tanna leaves. As an option, newer "Chiller" points may be awarded. Value of points to be determined later. (Heh, heh.)
