In my opinion, "The Mad Ghoul" isn't as good as some of the other Universal "Mad Doctor" films, but it holds your interest.

George Zucco plays Dr Morris, a scientist working on a permanent cure for a mysterious gas that puts anyone who breathes it, into a temporary zombie like state, and then later death.

Dr Morris is only experimenting with monkeys, but ends up turning his assitant, Ted (David Bruce) into a ghoul.

The only temporary cure, is giving the victim a heart transplant from a recently deceased person. Which means digging up newly buried bodies in dark foggy graveyards at night.

But Dr Morris' reason for turning his assistant Ted, into a ghoul, wasn't for the advancement of science like some of the other mad docs reasons, it was because he wanted Ted's girlfriend, (Evelyn Ankers).
