Subject: Dwight Frye--an unsung hero of horror?

I'd like to know how many Universal Horror films Dwight Frye was featured in. I think his performance in DRACLULA (1931) of course will never be surpassed.

I think our beloved Universal classics, benefit from a great group of character actors--when you see them it's like seeing an old friend.

Rick I don't think Dr.Zarkov, with all the science of Mongo, could have come up with a better addition to your site.

Thanks for all you done,
Turan

Turan,

Here's the Universal list:

Dracula ( 1931 )
Character: Renfield

Frankenstein ( 1931 )
Character: Fritz

The Invisible Man ( 1933 )
Character: Reporter

The Bride of Frankenstein ( 1935 )
Character: Karl

The Great Impersonation ( 1935 )
Character: Roger

Son of Frankenstein ( 1939 )
Character: Villager

The Ghost of Frankenstein ( 1942 )
Character: Villager

Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man ( 1943 )
Character: Rudi

=============================================

His list of acting credits go far and wide. Very good actor. I must agree, not even Zarkov could go as far as I, but he'd given me a good run for the money.

Rick

Dwight Frye was remarkable in Frankenstein and several other Universal classics, but of course he is best remembered for his performance as Mr Renfield in Dracula. Who can ever forget that maniacal laugh?

Frye gave another great "lunatic" performance in the low-budget thriller The Vampire Bat (which is not a Universal picture). The film's superb cast also includes Lionel Atwill and Fay Wray.

Dwight Frye was blessed with massive talent, but not such good luck. It's unfortunate that things didn't pan out better for him. My personal favorite of his performances is 'Karl' in "Bride of Frankenstein".

BTY, go to Youtube and enter his name, and you can see clips of Frye in some interesting clips from his non-horror films.
