Subject: Which film

When I was little I saw a Mummy film on TV in the UK. I think the date would be between 1978-81 and it would have been on BBC2 on a Saturday night as part of a horror double bill and I think it would be the first of the two films.

I'm guessing at the date because I remember watching it at a time when my grandmother was ill and had a temporary bedroom set up in our spare lounge downstairs and I'm sure I watched it in this converted room. The TV station is purely from memory because I'm sure that's the station these were always shown on, but I may be wrong. I think it was a Saturday night and was the first film shown because my parents used to go out for a meal on Saturdays and I used to watch the first film before they came back home and put me to bed and I never saw the second film (which I think was usually a more recent and scarier one not suitable for kids).

I always thought it was a b/w Mummy film, but when I finally tracked down 'The Mummy' I was disappointed to find that the scene I remembered wasn't present so it must be one of the others that I haven't yet been able to track down. The scene I remember is of a Mummy walking up a road or a drive to an old house, I think on it's way to get somebody. I'm pretty sure the setting was the UK, though it might have been US, but the point here is that it wasn't Egypt. (The only thing I may be confusing here, is that maybe what I thought was a mummy was another ghoul of some other sort, but I'm sure it was a mummy).

The reason I so dearly want to identify this clip is because it's my earliest memory of being scared by a film That one scene may even have only lasted seconds, but it scared the pants of this little boy - I don't even know if I got through the rest of the film, but I certainly came back for more next time because I'd sort of enjoyed being so scared at home, and also I was being a bit naughty watching it in the first place so I would have been jittery to start with.

Chris, There isn't a lot to go on, but the scene you described could be in any one of these three Mummy films:
THE MUMMY'S TOMB (1942
THE MUMMY'S GHOST (1944)
THE MUMMY'S CURSE (1945)

Sounds like Hammer's version of 'The Mummy'.
