Subject: Zita Johann

One of the more intriguing actresses of early Hollywood, Zita Johann (1904-1993) is of course best known for her role in The Mummy (1932). She got along famously with Boris Karloff, but has described her mistreatment by director Karl Freund as a nightmare. Formerly a stage actress, her tenure in Hollywood was brief. In 1934 she gave up movie work and returned to the stage, although she made one final film appearance in 1986.

The Mummy movie poster is among my favorites. A portion of it can be seen on page 2 of The Gallery here.
