Re: The Mad Ghoul ( 1943 ) and House of Horrors ( 1946 ) -- Alan, 20:18:01 11/18/07 Sun [1]
Hi Rick,
I can't be certain about "House of Horrors", but "The Mad Ghoul" was released on VHS; the copyright date on my copy is 1994. I haven't watched it in years, but I remember liking it, even if it is sort of a reworking of "Man-Made Monster".
I need to pop it in and give it another look.
Isn't "House of Horrors" the Rondo Hatton film where 'The Creeper' falls for a blind girl who's doing a sculpture of him? If so, I haven't seen that since I was a kid. If any of the Hatton films were ever released commercially, I missed them, and his featured work at Universal seems to remain frustratingly obscure.

I checked on these films at IMDb and didn't notice the first one was issued on VHS ( 1994 ). My eyes skimmed past it. Thanks for the clarification, Alan.
Both obscure films. They could see the light one day on DVD.

The movie where the Creeper falls for the blind girl, wasn't in "House Of Horrors" it was in "The Brute Man"(46)
Jane Adams who played Nina,(the hunchback), in House of Dracula, played the Blind girl in The Brute Man.
The Brute Man was produced by Universal, but sold to PRC for release. This was Rondo Hatton's last film.

Dan,
You are right. It's been a long time since I've seen those films, and I guess I mixed 'em up!
I also didn't recall Jane Adams as the blind girl, though I must admit she made an impression on me as the hunchback nurse in "House of Dracula"...not bad looking for a girl with a hump!

I have not seen House of Horrors for twenty years or more, and I cannot say with certainty that I have ever seen The Mad Ghoul. Both films certainly have interesting casts.
Alan is correct, Rondo Hatton plays "The Creeper" in House of Horrors. Hatton has become something of a cult figure, and there is even an award named after him. The Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards have been around for about five years, and are voted on by fans.
