Guess I am just doomed to leave someone or something out when post -
First off - thank to Chris K for inviting me to post here after I gave up on Voy's JAGNik board. Chris mucho apologies for not including you in the final A/N - but then again - maybe it is fitting for me to thank you here for your unwavering support.
Now as promised - like Stephen King and Tom Clancy have said - [paraphrasing] there's more to a novel than just banging on a keyboard.
First a thanks to all the ff writers who inspired me and encouraged me to write FMS - I started calling it that a long time ago because For Meritorious Service is such a mouthful - :)
This includes at least some of the following writers:
Chris K
Aero Girl
InCat
Manette
Mkim
Soleil
TZ
Karen
Janlaw
All showed me what three dimensional characters Harm, Mac and the other members of the JAG cast could be.
As thanks for their help I asked if they wouldn't mind
being characters in the story - I sure couldn't pay them -
all graciously agreed - guys if you ever see this, thanks for your help - I could not have done this without you.
*Aimee Joshua & Lea Booth - pilot and co-pilot of the AC-130 gunship 'Elven Fury' Lea hope you enjoyed the Corps and loved flying those C-130s [she became a Marine, guys]
*Aero Girl - 'Supergirl' Harm's assistant commander
*Liza Griffon aka MzGriffon - Colonel Luisa Baranova
*TZ - 'Rhino' one of Harm's pilots
*Soliel - LCDR Tiffany Lexington, NLSO Bahrain
*Karen - Kayce Danvers - Force Recon Marine
*Janlaw - CPT Natalia Seranovich - SJA
*Mary Ann - CPO Rachel Brie
*Brad Meyer - SEAL CDR of Rat Patrol
Aimee, Lea, and Liza listened to my first crazy ideas about FMS and said 'go for it' When Lea went off to the Marines, Karen became my main cheering section and chief editor until real life events which we call {RL} overtook
her. Jan and Mary Ann picked up the ball and ran with
it listening to my wacky explanations and putting up
with my many many goofs along the way.
Aero Girl was a constant source of information especially
when scripting what I wanted to happen when Harm was
blown out his cockpit. She used to be in the aerospace industry. Soliel gave me legal boilerplate when I first
started the court info and Janlaw helped see me through the
rest of the legal jargon and all things Marine and Navy.
TZ knew about planes and something about ground security forces we wanted to make it generic enough not to spook the
military but belivable - he delivered.
We started this grand adventure in the late summer early fall of 2003 on JAGNik then picked up again on Yahoo!Shipper in Feb of 2004 when I left JAGNik. Then Chris K
invited me to her new board JAG Haven in Dec of 2005. I
have posted at these last two sites ever since.
And a big thanks to my family both back East and here in Texas who encouraged me to keep going and a big thanks to my wife, Meg, who endured countless nights of me sitting on the couch tippy-tapping away until the wee hours and putting up with 'honey, what do you think of this?' Honey, whether you realize it or not - some of Mac's reactions are your own.
Now for the part that few authors talk about - where the heck do you get your ideas and background info?
First off:
JAG
NCIS
JAGNik
JAGNik Jen's Forum [no relation to JAGNik]
Yahoo Shipper
Yahoo NCIS [especially Kathy Arnold and BatwomanAmy for her background on Leroy Jethro Gibbs]
Mad about Mac
Time
Newsweek
US News and World Reports
Fox News
The Big Three [ABC...]
Numerous Marine Corps and Navy Government documents and magazines [I have a list two pages long if you want to know the actual ones]
The official USMC website
The official NCIS, JAG, and SJA websites
The gaming manuals for Twilight: 2000 [the original](ask any RPG [role playing game] fan and they'll probably know what I'm talking about
And the computer combat simulation game from the SP Camo Group and Shrapnel Games - Steel Panthers - Main Battle Tank
Hope you found this information useful and thanks for letting me do this. Oh yeah, and thanks to all you loyal fans for seeing this epic through to the end.
