They returned home and were greeted by everyone. Harm thanked his mom and dad and Elga for watching over everyone. Frank reminded Harm about AJ’s 15:00 tryouts and team assignment for t-ball and he quickly got back into “daddy” mode. After a private “I’ll be lonely without you” kiss, the two men left with AJ in time to get him to the ball field for team assignments.
Trish talked with and kidded Sarah a bit about the perpetual smile she was wearing until she blushed. Sarah thanked her a couple times for making last night possible and it made Trish’s day to know she had advanced their relationship one step closer to a wedding date.
Part 9
Saturday, 12 April
After returning from the t-ball team assignments, everyone could either feel or see that major changes had happened in the world of Sarah and Harm. They looked at each other in a different way and gave off comfortable vibes to everyone around them. They had found completion and now owned each other without reservation. They had both allowed the other to have complete control while in a totally vulnerable position and had found the other worthy of their trust.
As Sarah spent extra time with Drew, Harm devoted his time to everyone else. Everyone enjoyed what was left of Saturday and Sunday. Harm watched as Sarah prepared for bed after they had both listened to the children, tucked them in, and heard prayers before giving them a good-night kiss.
(H) Thank you again for all you do for me and my children. I love you, babe.
(S) You are welcome. Loving them is just so easy to do. Loving you the right way takes a bit more effort.
(H) I know. We know each other in so many ways and have experienced so much together.
(S) I returned into your life just thirty five days ago prepared to receive your disdain and rebuke and instead found you waiting for me with open arms. In those 35 days we have openly confided our love and repressed feelings for each other and now feel free to sleep naked with each other. We have both given and received mutual respect from each other and we openly discuss our hopes and dreams for our future. We are becoming like “old married people.”
Babe, sharing a future with you was beyond my wildest dreams when I left the hell hole, but here we are, loving each other. Your acceptance of me has opened a door to what I could only dream about like some fairy tale. You said many things to me while you loved me in special ways that I have never allowed anyone to do ever before. I know that you could and can have your choice of many women that have lived a more moral and upstanding life than I have and I need to know if you can live with my past failings for a lifetime?
(H) Yes I can and I will. I found how special you are on the inside, as you revealed your real self to me in very dangerous situations and have went above and beyond with and for me. It’s what happens from here on that count with me.
(S) Five years without you taught me that who is on top doesn’t matter at all as long as it is between you and me. You and I are going to be a “WE” and we will be on top all the time. I also have learned what I need to avoid doing so as to not make you feel jealous or cause you to mistrust me. I am going to be the best wife you could ever hope for, just you wait and see. I know I will be because I know you will let me be.
(H) I know you will. It feels like you filled my heart with your love when I opened it to you. I intend to be the half of “WE” that you have needed for so long to be contented and know that you are loved unconditionally. Loving you will make my life more worth while and complete.
Not to change the subject, but……do you have “US” marked on your calendar for tonight?
(S) Yes I do and maybe we should dispense with the talking and get to the important stuff.
(H) Excellent idea.
The 03:00 feeding was light as Drew seemed to be more interested in being active and moving his legs about. Sarah took him into the family room and helped him exercise his arms and legs. He grinned and cooed as she forced him to move his limbs. He was developing more muscle control, resistance, and his grip was getting stronger to grasp things. She let him feed again until he went to sleep before she returned to bed. Being a woman and mother was more than special at times.
14 April
Harm went into the office a bit early on Monday to make up some time so he could meet everyone for the electric van Photo-Op at 14:00. Between Sarah, Frank and Trish they picked AJ up from school and got the children fed and ready so they could be on time.
Harm arrived at the dealership about 5 minutes early and found the place surrounded by news crews and dignitaries. He spotted Sarah and joined everyone over by the red van. They looked it over and noticed the graphics, extra identification lettering, and changes inside and out. Harm found a time he thought no one was looking and gave Sarah a quick kiss. At 14:00 on the dot, the President of Chrysler called Frank and Harm forward and gave each the keys to their new van.
He explained that Frank, a retired Exec. VP of Chrysler, and his step-son Rear Admiral Harmon Rabb, had been chosen to lease the vans and would drive them as a family would and stated that they had agreed to make the vans available when necessary for follow-up testing.
He explained that the vans would travel about 200 miles while using about 50% of an electrical charge they would receive from being plugged into a wall socket for 2 hours. If the distance exceeded 200 miles, the van had a “green friendly” lawn mower type engine that would start to run a battery charger to maintain the 50% battery level for approximately 10 hours on 4 gallons of gasoline, therefore extending the travel range to approximately 700 miles before more gasoline would be needed. He explained that most individuals experienced daily travel distances of less than 200 miles and for many the gasoline engine would never start and engage.
The Photo-Op followed as Harm, Sarah, Frank, Trish, and the children moved in and out of the vans and firemen from the local station gave a demonstration of correctly installing the base for the baby car seat and the other child restraint seats into both vans. The local TV stations took a lot of pictures and film as Harm, Sarah, Trish, Frank and AJ were interviewed. Sarah accompanied AJ as a reporter asked different questions and finally got around to the real questions he wanted answers too.
(Reporter) What relationship does Sarah MacKenzie have with you and your family?
(AJ) She is my God-mother and has been helping out as our nanny since the other nanny left.
(Reporter) I find that a little surprising since I understand she just retired as a Colonel in the Marine Corps.
(AJ) Yes it is. She was my dad’s partner for years and came when she found he needed help with us. She is special to every one of us.
(Reporter) Is she special to the Admiral also? He seems to be very protective of her.
(AJ) I hope so. We all love her and she would be the best mom we could ever ask for.
(S) I think your questions have strayed from this event into a personal area and your interview is now concluded.
(Reporter) I am sure there is more to this story. Do you have any comment?
(S) I am very pleased to have had the chance to help out where I can. Thank you.
Sarah led AJ back into the crowd and reported the incident to Harm asking him to let it go for now. He smiled at Sarah and gave the reporter a look full of daggers just in case he had other plans.
They listened to speeches from local dignitaries and finally received the OK to take possession of the vans. Harm and Frank helped Trish get AJ and Nicki seated and strapped in and then Harm checked to find Sarah had Drew well secured in his car seat and Harm helped Katie with her seat and belt. Both vans were started as pictures were being taken and very little sound was evident. Harm and Frank slowly pulled away while waving to everyone. Harm drove the red van to JAG and turned the children and van over to Sarah after a delightful kiss.
(H) Thanks for helping with this. Do you think anything will come of the reporter’s questions to AJ?
(S) It doesn’t matter to me. I wouldn’t mind if the whole world knew how we feel about each other. I love you, sailor.
(H) Right back at you babe. I have to admit that the whole thing seems a little like invasion of our privacy. I guess our public can see the looks we give each other that we can not hide. I am looking forward to loving you for 80 or 90 years, if that is OK with you.
(S) Ow, it is OK with me but………. you will need to make an honest woman of me if you expect me to hang around much longer.
(H) I will when I can make it special like I want it to be for you.
(S) Special is good, but………..I will marry you today in front of the justice of the peace if that is what you want.
(H) I want special for you as well as the children. If you don’t have something else you want to be doing, I am asking you to wait until the time is right………for me……..and you…….and our kids.
(S) Is something wrong that I don’t know about?
(H) Nothing wrong really ut………. deep down inside I believe you share the nagging feeling that we should show Harriet proper respect since we both loved her in our own way. I don’t want anyone to believe that you are just a rebound lover for me.
(S) I agree. Would a quiet engagement before that time be possible?
(H) Yes. I already have your ring. I have had it since I took you flying in Sarah and you got shot by poachers.
(S) It sounds like it might be long overdue.
(H) I promise all in good time. Just hang in there with me.
(S) That you can always depend on. I want “us” for the duration.
(H) Babe, make sure your calendar reads “US” before I get home because I am already wanting and needing you….badly.
(S) You can plan on it. Bye…..see you at home. Don’t be late.
(H) Love you babe.
Sarah pulled the van away from the curb with her daughter and the baby boy that had completely stolen her heart. She looked in the rear view mirror knowing that the father of both loved her beyond reason and would walk with her for the rest of their lives. She wondered if she had a right to feel as happy as she was feeling right now but knew he would spend his life trying to make all her dreams come true……because he loved her.
Tuesday started off normally until Harm stepped out side to get the paper. Two pictures adorned the front page with the story about the new electric vans. The one on the left had Sarah standing on her tippy toes receiving the kiss from Harm and the other was AJ saying “I hope so. We all love her and she would be the best mom we could ever ask for.” The headline read “New electrical sparks flying in Admiral’s family?”
Harm made sure Sarah read the complete story before he left for work. Many comments were complimentary of the way Sarah was helping out.
Harm was not surprised at all to receive the SECNAV’s call and explained that he had already filed all the required forms detailing the full details of the lease contract as called out in the latest regs. Harm also informed SECNAV that he and Sarah were developing a serious relationship based on mutual love and trust which he had every reason to believe would lead to marriage.
He listened to his boss’s rant as the past was relived once again and Harm reminded him that nothing in the UCMJ now restricted them in any way. As the SECNAV continued his rant, it became clear that SECNAV was not pleased with his decision to associate himself with and have feelings for the person he considered the Marine blow-job queen. Harm used very strong language and brought the conversation quickly to a halt. He knew that it was going to cost him dearly but he had finally had enough and strongly informed the SECNAV of that reality.
Harm called Sarah a little after 11:00 after he took time to think and get control of himself, to tell her of his conversation with the SECNAV. She was shocked to find that disapproval still existed but understood that Harm had laid it all on the line for them…….again.
(S) The hell of it is, most of what he said is probably true. What did he say?
(H) He said that your whorish ways were going to destroy me and my family.
(S) Ow my God. And what was your answer?
(H) I told him that I loved and believed in you and that you have changed and am different now.
(S) How did you leave it with him?
(H) He offered his congratulations and told me that he hoped that he was completely wrong about you and wished that we would be happy together.
(S) Oh dear God. Where does this leave us? You know me better than anyone else and I haven’t held anything back from you. I am sorry for everything that I have done in the past but pledge to you again that I want to be your wife and partner more than anything else and I will always be faithful to you.
(H) Where does it leave us? Right here in each other’s heart. I love you.
(S) No regrets? No wondering if I will loose interest and put you thru hell again? No nagging suspicions?
(H) No. Harriet told me that my heart was safe with you. She explained that things had happened and you had changed and was a new person. She knew your heart and wanted you to be the one that took care of me and our children if something happened to her. Tell me now if she was wrong.
(S) She was not wrong. You are totally it for me.
(H) And you are it for me in every way.
(S) Honey, remind me to give you some extra special lovin tonight.
(H) You got it. You are always extra special.
The next four weeks went along quietly as Harm was staying out of SECNAV’s way, spent 11 days at the two west coast JLSC’s, and found time to enjoy many parts of “married life” when he was home. Being apart for a few days cleared out the cobwebs, so to speak, and both Harm and Sarah found how important each was to the other.
Since Harm had been away, Sarah took Drew in for his checkup and changes were made to his diet. The doctor added a small amount of cereal and fruit twice a day to supplement the all liquid diet he had been on. He had become more the center of attention as he was starting to roll and trying to raise himself and the whole family was watching and encouraging his every move.
Frank and Trish had leased the condo but had returned to California while the master bathroom was being remodeled to Trish’s specifications. It was nice to have the extra van and Harm was driving it most of the time.
Sarah and Harm continued to grow closer as needs were being met, plans were being carried out, and hearts filled with each other. Elga was spending a couple sleep-over nights each week somewhere else. They were seeing more of big AJ on days when Elga took free time in the middle of the day to use the private sunning area in the yard. Sarah had to remind her twice to keep their voices low because the kids played in the yard also.
On May 23rd, Harm was a bit surprised when Jennifer told him she had given out the home phone number to some group that was looking for Sarah and later he received a call from her. They agreed to discuss whatever it was when he got home. He left for home a few minutes early that day because he had been bothered by it for the afternoon.
Sarah met him at the door and after seeing the kids for a minute they made a direct line to his bedroom. She took a seat on the bed and patted it for him to sit with her.
(S) Harm, I received a call from the director of the Greater DC Area Estate Planning Council and they asked me to become a member of the council. It is made up with about 75 % CPA’s and 25% attorneys. They have chosen me as the “Attorney of the Year” and asked me to attend their quarterly dinner meeting on the 25th of June to receive the award.
(H) Wow….that’s great. How did they know anything about you? How did they find where you were?
(S) They got my name from the two IRS tax challenges I made and won, changing the way that the IRS levies Estate taxes. The laws had been unfair for years and I got that changed while I was in the hell hole. Someone saw my picture when they read the electric car story and called your office to locate me. I want to go and I would like you to share this with me. Would you wear your mess dress for me?
(H) Yes. I would be honored too.
(S) Next problem: Since these are people that I will help and compete with in the future, I should really have a firm name or something so they can find me if they need to refer premium work to me. I need your ideas on how to make that work.
(H) How big do you envision this needing to be?
(S) Very small. For now it would be only me and someone to answer the phone.
(H) Will you be doing most of the work here at home after your initial meetings?
(S) Yes. Since I will be calling the shots, I can work whenever I get quiet time.
(H) You could rent a storefront office in the Hathaway Building and share a contract receptionist for 1 or 2 hours a day. You would have an office, desk and a room with a door and someone who would answer your phone with the name of the firm and set up appointments when someone calls. The whole thing for about $250 a month. The office might need an occupational license for $100 a year and you also need to send in the form to get a Tax ID for your new business.
(S) OK, then all that would be left is a firm name and business cards.
(H) Sarah, you and I thought that up years ago, didn’t we. MacKenzie Rabb, Attorneys at Law. Sarah Mackenzie, Senior Partner. We can get you one of those prepaid phones for the firm and Jennifer can use our business card software and Wa La…..you’re in business.
(S) Harm, are you going to be OK with this?
(H) I think you should go for it. It might be slow at the start but with the prices you ought to charge, very few will want to pay the freight anyway. But…..the ones that are in trouble and need it done right, will without a second thought.
(S) OK. I will buy the phone, look at the offices, and accept the council’s invitation tomorrow. Thank you, what would I ever do without you?
(H) Your welcome…………and I don’t want you to ever find out.
They spent extra time with the kids doing different things as the weather was getting warmer by the day. Frank and Trish returned to their new condo and swimming there became a treat for everyone. The family was working well as Elga had them under her watchful eye most of the time.
As the 25th approached, Harm and Sarah worked on the 4th bedroom upstairs changing it so it could be an office or bedroom if needed. Harm added shelving to give space for the many law books that Sarah had read and would use as reference. Frank and Trish had almost kidnapped both girls as they insisted they stay over as often as they could. They had become the most fabulous and loving grand parents.
On the morning of the 25th, Harm called the Willard where the dinner meeting was to be held, and reserved a room for the night. He had brought his complete Mess Dress with him because the dinner was to start at 18:00 and he had a conference starting at 15:00 that he feared would make him late as it was. He called Sarah and told her about the room and told her he was going to try to be there by 17:30 to change out of his blues into the mess dress and asked her to be there earlier. It would require driving 2 cars but that was the least of his worries or plans.
The day went by quickly until the 15:00 conference. He attended to that and was ready a few minutes early so he secured for the day and made it to the Willard.
He carried his brief case and garment bags to the room and found that Sarah had brought his shaving kit and fresh underclothing so he popped into the shower to freshen up. As he was drying off he noticed that Sarah was staying close and enjoying the scenery he was providing for her. Since he had made other plans, he dressed in his underwear and made a quick modification of plans, walked to his case and took out a black velvet box.
He asked her to stand up and she did. He kneeled down on one knee in front of her.
(H) This was not quite how I had this planned but it will have to do. I realized that you might have a problem introducing me to your new friends tonight. Saying that I was the father to your beautiful little girl, that I was the guy you went to sleep with every night, that you were the nanny to my children, or that I was the guy that you thought about all the time just didn’t seem like something you would want to say.
So, if you would do me the great honor of accepting this, (he held out the open box with the ring) my proposal of marriage, I would be pleased if you introduced me tonight as you fiancé. I am in love with you and have been for years. Will you marry me, Sarah?
(S) Yes, I would love to marry you but you need to get dressed now or we will never make it to the party, not that that would be a bad thing. Being “Attorney of the Year” is not as important to me as being “Mrs. Harmon Rabb, Jr.”
(H) Tonight, you can have both. This ring is just a small token of the love and esteem I feel for you.
Harm slipped the ring on her left hand and kissed her before turning to get dressed.
They walked into the ballroom at 17:59 and were directed to the seats reserved for them. Both Sarah and Harm shook hands with many people they didn’t know as they took their seats. The business meeting was handled quickly as dinner was being served and eaten. The director finally got everyone’s attention and started the award ceremony. He read from Sarah’s Bio and everyone was surprised at the many different areas of law and legal breath she had attained while in the Marine Corps and at JAG. It was very impressive and Sarah was called up front to receive the award and to introduce her guest.
Sarah was very gracious and accepted the award with humility and class. She made a few remarks about her new firm and the passion she had for the type of law that everyone present was practicing. Everyone applauded as she ended. A pregnant pause then ensued as she collected her thoughts.
(S) Tonight I have the pleasure of introducing to you the Judge Advocate General of the U.S. Navy, Rear Admiral Harmon Rabb, Jr. (applause followed)
I had the privilege to be his partner at JAG for 6 years before being transferred to another location. During that time he was so many different things to me, my mentor, my teacher, and became my best friend. Since I have recently retired from the Marine Corp, I was unsure today of how to properly introduce him to you.
I believe he sensed my quandary today and 57 minutes ago he proposed marriage to me which I gladly accepted. So now I give you my fiancé, Harmon Rabb, Jr,.
Sarah made her way from the lectern and gave him a kiss when she returned to him. He gave her a hug and held up her left hand so everyone could see her ring. They stood together and received congratulations from many as the meeting came to a close. After the director came over and shook hands with both, they started for the elevators.
(S) That was a total rush. Everyone seemed so nice. I have a meeting with the director for next Wednesday to help with a pro-bono case that should prove to him that I have the right stuff. I think this is going to work out OK.
(H) You looked stunning and I am so proud of you. I love you, Sarah.
(S) I love you too and I think we should do something positive about it tonight, fiancé.
(H) Great minds think alike. Our room awaits our attention, my lady.
(S) I brought that white silk nightie that I wore in Russia.
(H) I’m surprised you still have that.
(S) I plan to be more successful using it tonight than the last time I wore it for you.
(H) Did you wear it for my seduction last time?
(S) Yes, I figured neither of us would be able to sleep and would make wild passionate love together all night but Alexia messed up those plans before you could even taste the fruit I had for you.
(H) If the fruit is still good, may I have it all tonight?
(S) Yes. A little older, wiser, and sweeter to the touch. Time has prepared it better and safer for your pleasure and complete acceptance.
After arriving at their room, they talked as they slowly undressed each other and totally engaged in a night of bliss as they repeatedly crossed the final threshold to total commitment. They would remember this night like they remembered April the 11th. Two souls finally became one as all of the forbidden fruit was completely consumed and appreciated. But for the legal ceremony, Sarah had become Mrs. Rabb in every way possible as total commitment and sexual consummation had taken place. A “WE” and an “US” had been created which would last forever.
They actually got a couple hours sleep before they had to vacate the room so Harm could go to work. Harm had redressed in his blues and followed Sarah back home. He went in to tell AJ and the girls he had a special surprise for them when he got back home. He thanked Elga for taking over last night and confirmed that Sarah had said yes to his proposal. He spent a few minutes with Drew as Sarah was already feeding him.
(H) Sarah, I am going on to the office and could you have the kids ready so we can take them to eat somewhere that you pick? I want it to be kind of special when we tell them that you are going to be their new mommy for real.
