In many cases the wick effect is given as explanation. If some part of the clothes catch fire caused by a small fire source, like a cigarette glow, the skin beneeth can be warmd up so that molten fat seaps out, and the clothes or dried skin abosorbe the fat that then will be steadily burning. This slow burning will continue until mcuch of th ebody is consumed if the person is out of consciousness for some reason.

But what are the causes, aside from the wick effect often given as an explanation?

There are actually many whitnessed cases of people and animals suddenly beginning to burn which can hint to some explanation. Most of these cases result only in minor damages because the fire stops by itsef or is swiftly put out, and many of the vicrims can tell about the incident. In all of these cases the fire seems to begin at the outside and may dig itself deeper after some time.

I think microwave radiation from some natural source can be involved. Creeping electric currents from the environment to the atnosphere is pussibly a cause. Ball lighnings are probaly involved in some cases.

If there is some bacteriological or metabolic process in the body that produces simple volantile compounds like methane or ethane and these dissolve in body fat and fatty secretions and accumulate during a long time, the surface of the body and much of the interior can get intensily flammable, but still the fire starts from the outside. But with such a flammable fatty content, the fire will soon dig a deeper hole from which hydrocarbons and fat will vaporize and burn like in a torch. But also in these cases something from the outside, must have started the fire, like a burning cigarette or spark.

Some properties of these fenomenons, are easy to understand. If a human or animal body burns because of some energy from within or outside, like microwave energy, a lot of water vaporizes, which will hinder the surroiundings to catch fire.
