FBI agent charged with shoplifting 36 cents worth of electrical wire
Posted by on Tuesday, May 31st, 2005 at 19:16
WEST LONG BRANCH — Local police have arrested an FBI agent and charged him with shoplifting 36 cents worth of electrical wire from a local home improvement store.

Police Chief John H. Demaree said police were called to The Home Depot store on Route 36 about 4:30 p.m. Friday where the store's loss prevention officer charged Thomas Jobs, 51, of Rumson, with one count of shoplifting.

Police said he is accused of cutting a piece of wire from a 500-foot spool that was valued at $24.75.

Police said the length of wire Jobs is charged with shoplifting was 4 1/2 feet long.

"He took a piece off this bundled roll and left the store without paying for it," Demaree said.

Cpl. Archie Symonds was the arresting officer, and Jobs was released on his own recognizance, police said.

A spokeswoman at the borough Municipal Court said there was no complaint signed against Jobs yet at her office.

The FBI's spokesman in Newark, Steve Siegel, had no comment on the arrest.

Jobs could not be reached for comment.
