Chris Davis, a loss prevention specialist for the Shoe Carnival store at the Shoppes at RiverGate in Madison, Tennessee, was shot and killed June 19th after stopping a suspected shoplifter. According to news and police reports, Davis stopped a teenaged suspect outside the store after observing him leave the store with a single pair of tennis shoes. Davis escorted the suspect back into the store at which time “the young gentleman drew a handgun and fired apparently six shots, striking the loss prevention associate,” reported a spokesman for the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department. The 15-year-old arrested has also been charged in a carjacking and two other shootings that occurred before and after the incident at the Shoe Carnival store. Police believe the violent rampage apparently began after the suspect left his home after arguing with his parents. "This was a total shock to everyone here at Shoe Carnival,” said Bruce Boehmer, vice president of loss prevention. “Chris was simply doing his job and happened to encounter someone apparently intent of hurting someone.” The 28-year-old Davis leaves a wife and two young children, ages one and four. “Our heart is broken and sad for the family at this moment. This was the family’s only job and now they’re left without a father and without an income,” said Steve Meyer, Shoe Carnival’s senior vice president of their Southern division. Donations for the family can be sent to: AmSouth Bank, Attn: Chris Davis Memorial Fund, 2227 Gallatin Pike N., Madison, TN, 37115.
