Dawn. The midsummer sky was already a pale, clear azure and mists were awakening to mingle with the colors of daytime. Leafless trees lined the dull trodden roan which lacked any sort of color thanks to the winter death of any pleasant flora. Seeming to sense an intruder in their bleary landscape, the mists began to crowd around the feathered hooves of a wildly colored cob, dampening the fine hairs of its fetlocks. Atop the unlikely mount was a young, clean shaven man huddled inside a thick wool cloak of hunter green. He had been riding for days in this maddeningly silent wood in hope of finding himself a new future.
