Subject: Coming Home

Jack stared grimly at the foggy shoreline as it came into focus and drew nearer. The past few months he had been gone at sea, plundering other sea-faring vessels and raiding towns along the shoreline. Usually coming back to the land filled him with excitement, just as departing for sea did, but now, as he stood high in the rigging staring at the appoaching docks, the ache of misery cast a shadow over his soul. He didn't know why he felt so lonely and cast out all of a sudden, his solitude had always been a part of him, he wore it around his shoulders like a cloak...

The huge vessel, disguised as a merchant ship to ward off suspicion, docked at last, and while the crew began to tie it up to one of the many piers, Jack climbed nimbly down from the rigging and slipped off to roam the shores and contemplate this sudden emptiness that seemed as endless as the steel gray sea and as heavy as the mist in the air.
