Subject: lost my sweetie

Hi all, Im so sad right now. I lost my beloved pigeon. He was found last august in front of frys grocery store by my mom. he had a broken leg and was covered in ants...she of course saved him and brought him to me. he was about 3 weeks old. I took him to my vet and got his leg fixed. he grew up to rule the house and was a mean ungrateful cuss though I loved him anyway. we called him "Evil pigeon" Anyway he got sick about a week before Christmas and was throwing up so I took him to the vet and they found yeast and bacteria in his poop. On the antibiotics he went, he got better for a couple days then got ill again. Back to the vet..change the anibiotics. he got better again but still threw up off and on. I gave him baby bird formula cause he didnt throw that up.he got better, then got sick again. off to the vet for the third time. my doc decided to do an X-ray. I wouldnt have believed it if i hadnt seen with my own eyes! He ate a nail!!We dont where or when, but it was way down in his gizzard. I decided to have the surgery done to remove the nail. I fretted all day at work then I got that dreaded phone call. The doctor said when he went in to the abdomen cavity, there were seeds floating around. Not good. Then he said the tissue inside was all necrotic and infected and beyond repair. I got sick. he decided to put him down on the table. Im so horrified by this. we had some dry wall repair about the week before Christmas due to a slab leak..and I cant get it out of my mind that I was the cause of all this due to not cleaning the house well enough. But I swaer I went through this place with a fine tooth comb before I let the birds back into the main house. he may have gotten it then or while outside one day cause I used to take him out when I was gardening. I just dont know. the vet said the nail could have been there for months. I still feel like its my fault. My baby is gone and my house is empty without him. I brought him home and placed him in the garden beneath Saint Francis.I thought that is the best place for him. Please everyone, police your house and yard so something like this will never happen to you.
