Everyone is different obviously, but for me personally, I�d definitely consider 38 a little too old to father children. There are some advantages for older parents I suppose, by way of experience and temperament, but I�ve always looked upon child rearing as a young person�s game. My father was approximately the same age when he had me, and I think it led to some real problems growing up, for both of us.

This will be a tough issue to work out, as there�s really no opportunity for compromise as far as I can see. Either you�ll have another child or you won�t, but either way, someone�s not going to be happy.
