...California is no longer what it was. In fact, California is no longer. It once had everything: freedom, the best weather, every sort of recreation known within easy access, the best roads, the best schools, the prettiest women (I'm sincere when I say that)...

Now it's an overhyped, overtaxed, overpopulated, overegulated, overpriced, overly diverse, crime ridden, grafitti-covered shithole. There are still enclaves where folks live the dream with their heads firmly in the sand and/or up their asses, coincidentally mostly along the coast, but the barbarians are at the gate. Steinbeck would likely roll over in his grave if he could see what his beloved Salinas Valley has become.

Many gainfully employed Californians, especially those with lighter complexions, are saying "Adios!" and putting their backs to the wall in places like Montana, Wyoming and the Pacific Northwest. I moved to Idaho a few years ago and finally drifted back because I kept missing the California that was-the California of my youth. I might as well have stayed up north.

I can guarantee you 90% of the people in this country have not the remotest idea what has happened here. California is lost. The rest of the country is not far behind.
