Seems incongruous at first, but I wouldn't be surprised to learn you're right. I've seen parallels with some of the scurviest, most drug-addled losers I've known. When an acquaintance has "come to Jesus," or been "reborn," it has invariably been one of those.

Occurrences such as that have been about the best things I've seen come of religion.
