SOUTH ASIAN STUDIES PROGRAMME
Applications are invited for the position of Head of the South Asian Studies Programme (SASP) at the level of Associate Professor / Professor. This is a senior appointment.
The South Asian Studies Programme is one of 12 Departments and 7 Programmes of study within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the National University of Singapore (NUS). It offers degree programmes at the undergraduate, masters and doctoral levels. The SASP also services the curricular requirements of students from the Faculty as well as the university at large. There are 5 faculty members, whose expertise covers the fields of history, language and culture, development studies, international economic relations and political economy. To enhance further the research and teaching areas of the SASP, preference will be given to those candidates who specialize in strategic studies and / or political economy, especially the engagement of India with Southeast and East Asia.
The successful candidate will be expected to possess an international research reputation and proven administrative experience and leadership qualities. The candidate should demonstrate a strong desire to develop and implement a vision for a dynamic and relevant SASP in which students will want to enrol. He / she must nurture the potential of young faculty, attract quality faculty members at all levels, and contribute to the growing interest in South Asia within the Singapore community.
A competitive remuneration package, based on the qualifications and experience of the candidate, can be expected. The appointment may be on tenure or term contract.
