I suspect it is the closeted nature of many of the people there. They have that attitude like just because they as individuals can suppress, or at least minimize their own “deviant” sexual tendencies that it is wrong for others to be open about theirs. It’s like they consider themselves superior since they can at least give the impression that they are straight. Of course, it actually leads to harsh and cruel situations where everyone thinks they need be ashamed and suppress discussion of sexuality, which means that predators like Jerry Sandusky are allowed to operate for years since the society in general suppresses all implication of sexuality, and thereby keeping even the abhorant activity secret.
