I completely understand what you are saying. When I was in 9th grade, some kid in our school - who would probably now be called goth (we didn't have that term back then) - committed suicide. Almost no one knew who he was and they had this little moment of silence in class one morning, but that was it. Not popular = doing the minimum to acknowledge.

A few years after I graduated there was this BIG accident one morning before school. Some girls were driving to school and trying to pull out of their neighborhood onto a very congested road, and pulled out in front of a loaded cement truck that couldn't stop. They had school memorials, all kinds of TV coverage, newspaper coverage, yearbook memorials, the radio played special songs for them.

I think popularity had a lot to do with how people responded to each of these events. It is sad. I think that your desire to speak to everyone shows a high level of maturity that I don't see in many kids today. Your parents would be proud to know they've raised a kid like you. I hope that your actions are copied by others.

This is a lot of stress, even if these people aren't really your "friends" but just acquaintances. I think you still feel a lot of emotions. Make sure you talk to someone about it. Your parents, a school counselor, or one of us here on the board.

Hugs to you!!!
