The Ostriches are way cool, very different.....and they are now back to being like what we saw when we first went to the farm ... right up in your face all curious about everything you are doing and they don't leave you alone....it's hilarious actually. I'm loving it though, they are very interesting animals.
Yep on the doghouse, we got quite a nice one from a girl that commutes on the train with me, we go from the same station to the same station, so it's kind of nice to sit with someone and talk. She's also an animal lover and lives just outside the city limits on the other side of town from me....if you go out the back way from Norco and into Riverside she is right there. She's the reason I have the little piggies to begin with....she saw one of my neighbors with them outside and a sign for sale when she was driving by..... she had built a very nice doghouse, super big and sturdy and her dogs never used it, so I picked it up and the piggies have a home and they LOVE it.
Today the neighbor kids were tossing beer bottles into my yard.....so much going on this week, my patience level was in the negative so I just let loose, cussed them out, threw the beer bottles BACK into their yard with such force I almost launched them into the property on the other side of them! Then I went over and screamed at the parents and told them exactly how we would handle this and if I ever have to pick up their trash that constantly blows into my yard again, I would just call the city and police out and have them written up and fined and given 48 hours to clear their yard..... THAT hit the message home loud and clear and the adults went out and reemed those kids.
I was just at my wits end because I can't keep my goose, the only one of the two that is laying, can't keep her regularly laying because the kids are always at the fence bugging them and teasing them, so they don't get a moments peace.....so I am just done! The owner of the house next door....He is actually a very cool guy and wants to be very neighborly and have everyone get along, so I knew that flying over there and going off would get the message through so profoundly that we wouldn't have another problem like this again........as it is, it was kids of their friends/family that were visiting.....so that just pisses me off even more.....my animals don't need to be bothered by neighbors let alone passer bys that have no responsibility or concept of the care of animals.
Aside from that :) Keep working on those aviaries and getting setup because my Muscovy hen has a nest going and I am going to just let her go ahead and lay as many eggs as she is going to lay rather than taking them away to try and push her to max out egg production, and I am going to let her hatch her own eggs. They should be beautiful whites and blues and possibly silvers.
Other than that, it's hatching central over here.....more eggs than I can possibly keep track of anymore and my Lavender Turkey eggs just arrived today.....I hope I get a great hatch out of these, they will be my focus along with Bourbon Reds if I get a decent hatch of those too.
Then maybe down the road, I will do the Midget White Turkeys as well......I'm going to be thinning out the chicken flocks soon as I want only a couple neat bantam types and then a few large breeds for meat and eggs....but it is coming along. Lots of work and I love every minute of it.
As for getting another pig, you should! That was so cool to know someone had a pig as a pet in the OC.....made me smile everytime I thought about it.
