Subject: Duck breeds...

Diane, you might want to try the Muscovies....they are a rather large duck....a South American breed....personally they are my favorite. They make excellent layers and mothers, and best part is they don't quack! The females can make a 'chirp' sort of sound if you were to try and grab them and they aren't tame....or when gettig annoyed by the male ducks....the males just hiss...no sounds....wonderful for small backyards as neighbors wouldn't know. Well neighbors wouldn't know unless you had some like mine Ihad growing up that would fly over the wall and swim in the neighbors pool with their kids! I had to trim wings to keep that from happening.
I have Call Ducks, or DUCK....more eggs coming....but Calls are just that...calls...they quack a LOT and loud squeaky quacks, females more than males.
If you think you might want to try Muscovies just for the sake of the 'quackless' duck....let me know as I can put some feelers out for some eggs. I am on the hunt for a Chocolate male to go with my all white female. I have a male, but he's the little guy I hatched in my condo and he was hatched with a crooked neck. I thought for sure he wouldn't make it but sure enough he is full grown, crooked neck and all....but I don't think he'll be able to mate with this female because of the neck....his sight and balance is not what it should be.
Anyway just let me know, the Sportsman has been running non-stop since last October and is going to stay running as I have call duck and turkey eggs already ordered and paid for and set to arrive in April sometime.
