Subject: The Domestic life...

Too funny Bonnie....well as much as I would like to perpetuate the idea that I am just SO great.....I can't....the idea of growing my own food, running a little farm, etc stems from one of the magazines I get called Countryside....it promotes a self-sufficient type lifestyle or as they call it, Homesteading. I love animals and love the old time country lifestyle anyway.....which is why one of my favorite places of all time will always be my grandparents home on the Azore Islands in Portugal....they were actually U.S. Citizens but when Pearl Harbor was bombed, they left and decided that not only had the loved their old world life, but the US would be involved in such a bad war that it was best to take their children away and raise them with traditional values, etc and teach them how to be able to take care of themselves. SO, I guess it's just deep down instinct for the most part.....but I love it....I do think modern technology is awesome, what we can accomplish, etc....life has become way more convenient....that's always nice.....BUT with all that comes a sense of losing oneself and because we have grown into an instant gratification society.....it's fed into the fact that so many kids growing up don't have a clue about nature, the environment or do they have the proper respect and concern for it all....including themselves......so anyway.....I'm just a good ole farmer boy.....but yep I can cook and bake and do all that household stuff too.

OH and I cooked my very first home grown chicken last night.....and everyone was right, the chicken was WAY better than any store bought chicken....the flavor ran deeper, the meat was just better quality....so, that was my convincing factor....I will now setup a 'meat pen' and basically all the extra roosters and birds that I can't sell as show quality will go into this one big community pen to be used for meat purposes. It's all coming together because I am up to 5 people buying fresh eggs now and have 4 that insisted on being on my list for fresh home grown turkeys next year....odd because I didn't know I had a list until they told me! :)
