Hi Chris ...

I was at St John's too, but, in the early 60's, proably 1961, spent 14 months there.

Apart from a bit of bullying at first, I enjoyed my stay, and, learned a lot, it also sort of ironed me out!!

When I was there, the was a Mr Brenan in charge, he used to have a really good buddy called Sqd leader Dattner, a really nice guy.

I too slept in the long gallery, 2nd bed on the left as you walk in, I rememeber the coca and bread pudding at night time, lovely.

apparently, they have done up Apethorpe, and, put it up for sale, be great to buy it, but, at £4 million, + £20 million to re-furbish it, it's just out of my reach!
